CHAPTER FIFTY TWO

PHOEBE'S POINT OF VIEW

The water was still warm when we finally stepped out of the shower. Adam wrapped me in a big fluffy towel, then wrapped himself in another. He didn’t say much. He just kept looking at me with that soft, steady gaze that made my knees feel weak.

I felt different. Not broken. Not scared. Just… new.

We moved to the bedroom. Adam pulled me onto the bed with him, cuddling me close even though we were both still damp. His fingers traced slow patterns on my bare arm.

“You okay?” he asked quietly.

I nodded against his chest. “I’m more than okay. I feel… safe. With you. All of me.”

He kissed the top of my head. “That’s all I’ve ever wanted. For you to feel safe with me.”

We stayed like that for a while, tangled together, listening to the ocean outside. Later, we got dressed lightly, me in a simple sundress, him in shorts and a loose shirt. Adam took my hand and we walked out to the private beach in front of our villa. The sand was warm under my feet.

He pulled me down to sit between his legs, my back against his chest. His arms wrapped around me from behind as we watched the waves.

“I still can’t believe we’re here,” I whispered. “Just us. No drama. No threats. No one watching.”

Adam rested his chin on my shoulder. “We needed this. You needed this. I needed to remind you that I’m yours. Completely.”

I turned my head slightly so I could see his face. “You’ve always been mine. Even when I was scared. Even when I pushed you away. You stayed.”

He smiled softly and kissed my temple. “And I’ll keep staying. Every day. Every fear. Every scar. I’m not going anywhere.”

I leaned back into him more, feeling the steady beat of his heart against my back. The sun was warm on my skin. But for the first time in a very long time, my mind was quiet.

“I love you,” I said softly.

He squeezed me gently. “I love you more, baby. Always.”

We stayed on the beach like that for hours, talking, laughing at small things, stealing kisses whenever we felt like it.

For once, the world felt far away.

And we were exactly where we were meant to be.

Later that evening, the island had a festival. We walked hand in hand through the crowded streets lined with lanterns, flower garlands, and small stalls selling handmade jewelry and sweet treats.

Drums beat in the distance while people danced freely in the open square. The air smelled of grilled fish, spices, and sweet mango. For a moment, it felt like the rest of the world didn’t exist.

Adam looked relaxed beside me, wearing a simple linen shirt, sleeves rolled up. He kept stealing glances at me, smiling every time our eyes met.

“This is nice,” I said, leaning into his arm. “Just us. Being normal for once.”

He squeezed my hand. “Very nice.”

We stopped at a small booth where an old woman with colorful beads in her hair and bright eyes sat behind a low table covered in cards and shells. A fortune teller. She looked at us and smiled knowingly.

“Ah… the couple who carries heavy love,” she said, her voice warm but teasing. “Come. Let me see what the spirits say about you two.”

Adam chuckled softly. “Why not?”

We sat down. The woman studied us for a long moment, then began shuffling her cards. She laid a few out and looked up with a playful grin.

“You two… very strong bond. But very stubborn hearts. One runs from pain. One carries too much weight from the past.” She pointed at Adam. “This one protects like a lion. But sometimes his protection becomes distance.”

Then she looked at me. “And this one… carries deep wounds. But her love is powerful. Like the ocean. Deep. Beautiful. Dangerous when angry.”

I blushed. Adam smiled, but I could feel him tense slightly beside me.

The woman flipped another card. Her expression changed a little.

“Great love is here,” she continued. “But darkness follows. Someone from the past does not want this union. Threats will come. Lies. Betrayal. A man with old anger. A woman with a jealous heart. You will have to fight not with hands, but with trust. If you break apart now, the darkness wins. If you hold tight… you will win. But it will not be easy.”

The words settled heavily between us.

Adam’s hand tightened around mine. I felt a chill run down my spine despite the warm night air.

The old woman smiled again, softer this time. “But true love that survives fire becomes unbreakable. You two… you have fire coming. Prepare your hearts.”

We thanked her quietly and walked away from the booth. The festival music still played, people still danced, but the lightness we felt earlier had faded.

Adam pulled me closer as we walked. “It’s just words,” he said, trying to sound sure. “Fortune tellers say things like that to everyone.”

I nodded, but my stomach felt uneasy.

Still… the way she spoke about a man with old anger and a jealous woman… It sounded too familiar. Victor. Scarlett.

I leaned my head on Adam’s shoulder, but the peace we had found on this island suddenly felt fragile.

Like something was coming.

And we couldn’t hide from it forever.

THIRD PERSON'S POV

AT KANE MANSION

The door slammed shut behind Scarlett as she stormed into Victor Kane’s private study. The room smelled of whiskey and expensive ci**rs. Victor sat behind his massive desk, a glass in hand, his expression cold and unreadable.

“You arrogant bastard,” Scarlett hissed, pointing a manicured finger at him.

“You told me to stay away from your precious daughter, but you’re the one making everything messy. The note? The photos? You’re playing games and it’s going to ruin everything!”

Victor took a slow sip of his drink, eyes narrowing.

“Watch your tone, Scarlett. I warned you not to touch Phoebe. The plan was simple separate her from Adam. Break the marriage. Destroy the Whitmore name from the inside. Not scare her half to death.”

Scarlett laughed bitterly, pacing in front of the desk. “You’re suddenly protective now? After abandoning her for years? After letting Gary destroy her childhood? Please. You don’t care about her. You only care about control.”

Victor slammed his glass down. The sound echoed sharply.

“I care about blood,” he said, voice low and dangerous. “Phoebe is my daughter. She carries Kane blood. I will not have her destroyed in the crossfire. Use the contract. Use the scandals. Use Lucien’s weakness if you must. But do not put her in real danger.”

Scarlett stopped pacing. Her eyes gleamed with malice.

“You’re weak when it comes to her,” she spat. “Just like you were weak when you helped kill Adam’s father.”

Victor’s face hardened. The room grew colder.

Scarlett smiled, sensing she had struck a nerve. “Don’t look so surprised. I know what you did. You fed his father those lies about the business deal. You poisoned the relationship between the two families. You wanted the Whitmore empire weakened so you could swallow parts of it. And when he started investigating you… you made sure he never finished that investigation.”

Victor leaned back in his chair, fingers tapping slowly on the desk.

“His father was a threat,” he said flatly. “He was digging too deep. He would have exposed everything. I protected my empire. Just like I’m protecting it now.”

Scarlett crossed her arms. “Then stop pretending you care about Phoebe. She’s just another tool. Use her to bring Adam down. Make him choose between his wife and his family’s legacy. That’s how we win.”

Victor stared at her for a long moment. The silence was heavy.

“Be careful, Scarlett,” he warned. “If anything real happens to my daughter, I will destroy you myself. Slowly.”

Scarlett smirked, but there was a flicker of unease in her eyes.

“We’ll see,” she said. “But mark my words if you keep playing soft with her, Adam will keep her forever. And everything we’ve worked for will crumble.”

She turned on her heel and stormed out, the door slamming behind her once again.

Victor stared at the closed door, his jaw tight. For the first time in a long while, a shadow of doubt crossed his face.

His daughter.

His empire.

And the Whitmores standing in the way of both.

CHAPTER FIFTY ONE

PHOEBE'S POINT OF VIEW

Adam kissed me back like he had been waiting for this moment as long as I had.

His hands gripped my hips, pulling me flush against him as I pushed his shirt open. My fingers moved over his bare chest, feeling the heat of his skin, the fast beat of his heart. Everything I had been holding back the jealousy, the frustration, the deep want poured into that kiss.

He groaned softly against my lips. For a second I thought he would take control, but he let me lead, matching my urgency without rushing me.

“Phoebe…” he breathed when we broke apart. His voice was rough, eyes dark. “Are you sure?”

I didn’t answer with words.

I pushed him gently toward the bed. He sat down and I climbed onto his lap, my hands still exploring his shoulders, his chest. He let me. His own hands slid under my shirt, warm and steady on my waist.

“I’m tired of being scared,” I whispered against his mouth. “I want you. I want this.”

Adam pulled back just enough to look at me. His breathing was heavy, but his eyes stayed gentle.

“Then we do this together,” he said softly. “No rushing. If you want to stop, we stop. Okay?”

I nodded and kissed him again, slower this time. Deeper. His hands moved carefully, lifting my shirt over my head. Cool air touched my skin, but his warmth followed right after. He kissed my neck, my collarbone, every touch full of love and patience.

I felt exposed. Vulnerable. But safe.

His fingers traced my spine, gentle and reverent. “You’re beautiful,” he murmured against my skin. “So damn beautiful.”

Tears slipped from my eyes. “I… I have scars.”

Adam looked at me, eyes soft. “So what if you have scars? Every one of them is a victory. You survived him. You’re here with me. That’s all that matters.”

He flipped us gently so I was beneath him. He hovered over me, eyes locked on mine, making sure I was still with him every step of the way.

“I love you,” he whispered. “No matter what. Always.”

I pulled him down, wrapping my legs around him.

“I love you too,” I breathed.

And for the first time, I wasn’t thinking about the past.

I was only thinking about him.

About us.

Adam was gentle. Soft. Sweet. He replaced every bad memory with a kiss, every old fear with a whisper of love. I waited for the panic to come… but it never did.

My body wanted him just as much as my heart did.

He touched me in ways I didn’t think were possible. I moaned softly into the night with every slow thrust, every kiss, every quiet “I love you” he breathed against my skin.

There was no fear.

Only us.

Only healing.

The next morning I woke up slowly, feeling warm and safe. Then I realized something.

Adam was completely naked beside me.

My eyes widened. Heat rushed to my face so fast I thought I would combust. I stared at his bare back, the strong lines of his shoulders, the way the sheet barely covered his hips. Memories from last night flooded my mind his hands, his voice, the way he looked at me.

Oh God.

I tried to slip out of bed quietly, cheeks burning red. I needed a second. Just one second to breathe and hide my embarrassment.

But before my feet could touch the floor, a strong arm wrapped around my waist and pulled me back.

“Where are you running to, baby?” Adam’s voice was husky with sleep, low and amused.

I squeaked, falling back against his chest. He turned me gently so I was facing him. His eyes were half-open, a lazy smile playing on his lips. Very naked. Very unbothered.

“Adam!” I whispered, trying to cover my face with my hands. “You’re… you’re naked!”

He chuckled, the sound deep and warm. He pulled my hands away from my face, grinning.

“And you’re blushing like it’s the first time you’ve seen me,” he teased. “After all those pretty mo*ns you gave me last night?”

My mouth fell open. “Adam!”

He laughed softly and kissed my burning cheek. “What? You were so beautiful. Especially when you got on top and”

“Stop!” I covered his mouth with my hand, mortified but laughing at the same time. “You are shameless. I can’t believe you.”

He gently moved my hand away, eyes sparkling with mischief. “Why are you shy now? You were very bold last night, Mrs. Whitmore. Taking charge like that… I liked it.”

I buried my face in his chest, groaning in embarrassment. “I hate you.”

“No you don’t,” he murmured, kissing the top of my head. His arms wrapped around me tighter, one hand stroking my back soothingly. “You love me. And I love hearing every sound you make. Don’t hide from me, Phoebe. Not after last night.”

I peeked up at him, still red-faced. He was watching me with so much love and amusement that my heart melted despite everything.

“You’re really going to tease me about this forever, aren’t you?” I mumbled.

“Probably,” he admitted with a grin. “But only because you’re adorable when you’re shy.”

He leaned down and kissed me softly, slow and sweet, chasing away the last bits of my embarrassment. I kissed him back, relaxing into his arms.

Last night was beautiful.

And this morning, even with his shameless teasing… it felt right.

I finally managed to slip out of bed, my legs a little shaky. Adam was already in the bathroom. I could hear the shower running.

I walked in quietly. Steam filled the air. He stood under the water, back to me, water sliding down his shoulders. My heart did a strange flip.

Before I could say anything, he turned and saw me. A slow smile spread across his face. He reached out, took my hand, and gently pulled me into the shower with him.

The warm water hit my skin. Adam backed me gently against the tiled wall, his body shielding me from the spray. His hands rested on either side of my head, caging me in, but his eyes were so soft.

“Phoebe,” he whispered, voice low and full of emotion. “Look at me.”

I did. My chest felt tight.

“Every time you feel scared,” he said, brushing wet strands of hair from my face, “I want you to remember this. My hands on you are safe. My body against yours is safe. I will never take from you. I will only give. Only love.”

Tears mixed with the water on my cheeks.

He leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to my forehead, then my temple, then the corner of my eye.

“Gary took things from you that he had no right to take,” he continued, voice gentle but steady. “But he doesn’t live here anymore. Not in this body. Not in these hands. Not in this heart. This… us… this is new. This is ours.”

He kissed me slowly, deeply, like he was sealing every word into my soul. His hands roamed with passion that made me smile.

“I love every part of you,” he whispered against my lips. “The parts that are still healing. The parts that are still scary. The parts that are brave enough to try. You are safe with me. Always.”

I wrapped my arms around his neck and held him tight as the water poured over us. He was so patient, so careful, so full of love. Every touch replaced something broken. Every kiss pushed the old shadows further away.

He had me up against the walls, our hands joint sweetly as he pleasured me.

My man.

My crown, my peace, my husband. The man who waited for me, who held my hand through every fear.

His strokes made me see what it truly felt like to be touched by a man. Soft, gentle, slow, hard fast ..and then we were there. Right where he wanted me. At the peak.

When it was over, I cried in his arms.

Real, heavy tears that shook my whole body. Adam held me close under the warm water, one hand stroking my back, the other cradling my head against his chest.

“I love you,” I sobbed against his skin. “I love you so much, Adam. Thank you for being gentle with me. Thank you for waiting. Thank you for… seeing me.”

He kissed the top of my head, holding me even tighter.

“I love you more,” he whispered. “And I’ll keep loving you through every scar, every fear, every step of healing. You’re not broken, baby. You’re becoming. And I’m honored to be here with you.”

We stayed like that for a long time naked, honest, wrapped in each other, under the shower spray.

I was healing, with my gorgeous and sweat husband.

My man.

CHAPTER FIFTY

PHOEBE'S POINT OF VIEW

I couldn’t stop staring at my husband, he just has this charm that draws me in.

Adam chuckled, low and warm. He turned off the grill and walked over to me slowly, wiping his hands on a towel. I was still lying on the big outdoor bed, propped up on my elbows, wearing one of his oversized shirts.

He stopped at the edge of the bed and leaned down, caging me with his arms.

“You’re the one walking around in my shirt with nothing underneath,” he murmured, eyes darkening. “And you expect me to behave?”

Heat rushed to my cheeks. I reached up and traced a finger down his bare chest, feeling bold in this new environment.

“Maybe I don’t want you to behave,” I whispered, my voice shy but honest. “Maybe I want my husband to look at me the way you’re looking at me right now.”

Adam’s breath hitched. He lowered himself until our noses brushed.

“Careful, baby,” he said softly against my lips. “You keep talking like that and I might forget how patient I’m trying to be.”

I smiled, heart racing. “Who said I want patience right now?”

He kissed me then deep, slow, and full of hunger. His hand slid under my shirt, resting warmly on my waist, not pushing, just holding. I melted into him, fingers threading through his hair as I kissed him back with everything I had.

When we finally pulled apart, both of us breathing heavier, he rested his forehead against mine.

“I want you,” he whispered. “So much. But only when you’re ready. Not because you feel like you have to. Not because we’re on an island. Only when it feels right for you.”

I nodded, touching his cheek. “I know. And I love you for that. But Adam… I’m starting to want it too. Not just for you. For me. I want to feel you. I want to replace the bad memories with good ones. With us.”

His eyes softened with so much love it made my chest ache.

“Then we’ll take it slow,” he promised. “One touch at a time. One night at a time. Until you feel safe. Until you feel loved in every single way.”

I pulled him down for another kiss, softer this time. Sweet. Full of hope.

We spent the rest of the morning eating breakfast on the beach, feeding each other pieces of grilled seafood, laughing when the juice dripped down our chins. Adam kept stealing kisses between bites. I kept teasing him about how dangerously attractive he looked shirtless.

For the first time in forever, there was no pressure.

Just us, loving ourselves and healing.

After breakfast we decided to go on a tour on the island. Adams' idea.

The island tour was supposed to be relaxing.

We walked side by side with one of the private tour guides, a tall, muscular man named Kai with a smooth smile and eyes that kept drifting to Adam. It was subtle at first because we had a few other people with us, girls and couples. Some girls kept glancing at him too.

Deep down I wanted to just hide my man from them. It's one thing to marry an attractive man, it's another thing to watch the entire world want him.

Kai continued the tour, he pointed out different spots, hidden coves, rare birds, the best snorkeling areas but his gaze always found its way back to my husband.

I tried to control it. I really did. It's one thing for a woman to want your man, and now it's a gay man?

For goodness sake, I didn't even know how to control my anger at this point.
I held Adam’s hand tighter and focused on the beautiful scenery. But every time Kai laughed at something Adam said or “accidentally” brushed against his arm while showing us a plant, something ugly twisted in my stomach.

Adam was just being Adam polite, interested, generous with his attention. That was the problem. He had been so patient with me about sx, about intimacy, always putting my fears first. And now this man was looking at him like he wanted to eat him alive.

It was becoming too much.

Kai stopped near a private waterfall, smiling brightly at Adam. “You have a very strong body, sir. Perfect for swimming here. I can show you the best spots… maybe later, just us.”

The way he said it was low, suggestive and made my blood boil.

I stepped forward before I could stop myself. “He’s not interested.”

Kai raised an eyebrow, still smiling. “No offense, ma’am. Just being friendly.”

“Friendly?” My voice rose. “You’ve been eyeing my husband since we started this tour. Stop it.”

Adam’s hand tightened on mine. “Phoebe…”

But I was already too far gone. The jealousy, the grief, the frustration from everything we’d been through it all came rushing out.

“You think because we’re on an island you can flirt with him right in front of me?” I snapped. “He’s mine. Back off.”

Kai looked shocked. Adam looked stunned. I had never raised my voice like this in front of him before.

“Phoebe, stop,” Adam said firmly, pulling me back. His arm wrapped around my waist like a steel band. “That’s enough.”

I tried to pull away, breathing hard. “He’s been un******ng you with his eyes the whole time!”

Adam’s face was a mixture of surprise and concern. He had never seen me this angry. He turned to Kai quickly. “I think we’ll finish the tour ourselves. Thank you.”

Kai left, muttering something under his breath.

The walk back to our villa was silent and tense. The second the door closed behind us, Adam turned to me.

“What the hell was that?” he asked, voice low but sharp. “You almost got into a fight with the man.”

I spun around, chest heaving. “Because he was all over you! And you just stood there being polite like you always are. Like you’re not allowed to want anything. Like you have to keep being patient with me while the whole world tries to take what’s mine!”

Adam’s eyes widened. “Phoebe….”

“No!” I cut him off, stepping closer. Tears of anger and frustration burned in my eyes. “You’ve been postponing everything for me. Sx. Intimacy. Everything. Because I’m scared. Because I’m broken. And then some random guy looks at you like that and I just… I can’t take it anymore!”

My hands were shaking. I grabbed the front of his shirt and pulled him down hard, crashing my lips against his in a furious kiss.

Adam froze for half a second, surprised. Then he kissed me back, deep and hungry. I pushed him toward the wall, fingers working furiously on the buttons of his shirt, popping them open one by one.

He groaned against my mouth, hands gripping my hips tightly.

“Phoebe…” he breathed, voice rough.

But I didn’t stop. I kissed him harder, like I could pour all my jealousy, all my fear, all my desire into him.

CHAPTER

PHOEBE'S POINT OF VIEW

The island was more beautiful than I imagined.

When we stepped off the private jet, warm air wrapped around me. “Are you okay babe?” Adam asked, holding my hands softly.

I nodded, turned around and admired everything my eyes could find. The crystal clear water stretched out endlessly, the white sand sparkling under the sun. Women and children dancing at the entrance with colorful clothes.

Everything looked too good to be real. A little girl walked over to us with flower necklaces. We bent over so she could help us wear it.

“Welcome to Paradise island.” the old man said and Adam smiled.

I watched how the Palm trees swayed softly in the breeze. It felt like the world had paused just for us.

Everyone looked and acted normal. Not like when we were back at home. People walk on eggshells around my husband.

But it was different here, everyone saw us like a normal couple.

Adam carried our bags with one hand, the other holding mine tightly. He looked relaxed for the first time in weeks. No suit. Just a simple white shirt and shorts. He caught me staring and smiled.

“Like what you see?” he asked, voice low and teasing.

I bumped my shoulder against his. “Maybe. You look different here. Lighter.”

He chuckled. “Have I been different?” He asked, definitely getting worried again.

I stopped and turned to him. “That's not what I meant. I mean, back at home you're this tough businesses man. Whitmore CEO, but here everyone treats us like we're both normal. Isn't that beautiful?” I asked and he chuckled.

“I guess you're right. It's indeed a breath of fresh air.” He whispered softly.

We were taken to a beautiful private villa right by the beach. The moment we stepped inside, I kicked off my sandals and walked barefoot across the wooden floors. Everything felt open, big glass doors leading straight to the ocean, soft white curtains.

Adam came up behind me again, arms sliding around my waist like he couldn’t stay away. He pressed a slow kiss to my neck, then rested his chin on my shoulder.

“Just us,” he whispered. “No phones. No drama. No one else.”

I turned in his arms and wrapped mine around his neck. “Just us,” I repeated softly.

“I've always wanted to be alone with my man, but at some point it felt like everything was fighting against that wish of mine. If it's not work it's Scarlett, or my so called father, or an unknown stalker.” I cursed under my breath.

“I'm so sorry you had to experience that, babe.” He said and I blushed red.

Now that we are alone, I was starting to get nervous.

“How about we freshen up, and take a walk together. It could be anything you want.” He said and I laughed.

“You're really serious about spoiling me, this man.” I teased and he burst out laughing.

“You can't blame me, I have a pretty wife you see”

“Oh really?”

“Yes…”

“I'm definitely reporting you to my hot husband, you shouldn't be hitting on married women.” I said teasingly and he laughed so hard.

“Where did that come from!”

I smirked. “You think I don't see you staring at my bvtts, your eyes are so naughty. I will report you.” I said and he bit his bottom lip, then that sexy grin that made me blush red.

“Im sure your husband would understand, have you seen yourself?’ hr asked, playing along.

“You're something else Adam.” I said and he pulled me into his arms.

We spent the whole day kissing, arranging our stuffs, and having sweet talks in between.

Later that evening we walked along the beach at sunset, feet in the warm water. Adam rolled up his trousers and carried me when the waves got too strong, making me laugh until my stomach hurt. Later, we lay on the big outdoor bed under the stars, listening to the sound of the ocean.

I snuggled closer to his chest, tracing patterns on his shirt.

“Thank you for this,” I said quietly. “I needed to breathe again.”

He ran his fingers through my hair. “I needed it too. I needed you like this. Away from everything.”

We stayed quiet for a while, just listening to the waves. Then I spoke again, voice barely above a whisper.

“I still want to try… with you. Being intimate. I’m scared, but I want it. I want to feel close to you in every way.”

Adam tilted my chin up gently so I could look at him.

“We’ll go slow,” he said. “Only when you’re ready. Only what feels good for you. I don’t need anything you’re not ready to give.”

I smiled shyly. “What if I want to give you everything… but slowly?”

His eyes softened with so much love it made my heart ache.

“Then we learn slowly,” he murmured. “Together. Every touch. Every kiss. Every night you fall asleep in my arms is already enough for me.”

I kissed him then soft at first, then deeper. His hands stayed respectful, holding me close but never pushing. When we pulled apart, both of us breathing a little faster, he rested his forehead against mine.

“I love you, Phoebe. So much it scares me sometimes.”

“I love you more,” I whispered back, smiling.

That night, we fell asleep with the balcony doors open, the sound from the ocean filling the room, his arm wrapped tightly around me.

For the first time in a long time I didn't even paise to think about the past, I dreamed about us.

The next morning, I woke up to the smell of roasted sea food.

I chuckled when my eyes met a very shirtless Adam. God, he looked so got in his shorts. He noticed me staring and flashed me a grin.

“Why the hell do you look like the reason why women get seduced?” I asked and he smirked.

“Maybe, I'm trying to seduce my woman.’

My jaws literally dropped at his smooth words.

This man is not going to be the end if me.
