10 COMMON DARK TRICKS PEOPLE PLAY ON YOU
Have you ever felt drained after talking to someone, like they took something from you without ever touching you? That’s not your imagination.
Some people play quiet psychological games for power, control, or ego. They smile while pulling invisible strings.
And the worst part? Most of us don’t even see it happening until it’s too late, don’t you think?
1. GUILT TRIPPING 📌
They make you feel bad for things you didn’t even do. Miss a call? You’re “selfish.” Set a boundary? You’re “heartless.” Guilt is their favorite leash because it makes you obedient.
You end up apologizing for simply existing on your own terms. It’s subtle slavery, painted as “love.”
2. GASLIGHTING 📌
You remember something clearly, but they insist you’re wrong, again and again, until you start doubting yourself.
That’s gaslighting. They twist facts, deny what they said, and slowly make you question your own sanity. It’s mental warfare disguised as conversation.
3. LOVE BOMBING 📌
At first, they drown you in affection, texts, gifts, attention. You feel like you’ve met your soulmate.
But once you’re hooked, the affection fades. Now you chase the version of them that never existed. It’s manipulation in the costume of romance.
4. TRIANGULATION 📌
They bring someone else into your dynamic, an ex, a friend, a stranger, to make you compete for their attention.
It’s psychological chess. While you fight for validation, they sit back, feeling powerful. It’s cruel, but oh, it works like a charm.
5. THE SILENT TREATMENT 📌
When words fail them, they punish you with silence. They ignore your calls, avoid your eyes, and act like you don’t exist.
It’s not peace, it’s control. The goal is to make you anxious enough to beg for their attention. That’s not love; that’s domination.
6. PROJECTING THEIR FLAWS ON YOU 📌
They accuse you of what they’re guilty of. If they’re lying, they’ll call you dishonest.
If they’re cheating, you’ll hear “you’re acting distant.” It’s a dark mirror game, they project their sins onto you so they can sleep guilt-free. Clever, right?
7. PLAYING THE VICTIM 📌
They can destroy you and still look like the one who got hurt. Tears, stories, and half-truths, all part of their act.
They twist the narrative until others see you as the villain. It’s manipulation at its finest: emotional acting worthy of an award.
8. BACKHANDED COMPLIMENTS 📌
“You’re pretty for your age.” “You’re smart, but overthink things.” Sounds harmless, doesn’t it? But it’s a double-edged sword.
These statements are crafted to chip at your confidence while pretending to praise you. It’s poison wrapped in sugar.
9. WITHHOLDING AFFECTION AS CONTROL 📌
They know what you crave, love, approval, warmth, and they’ll starve you of it until you behave the way they want.
It’s emotional starvation. And when you finally comply, they reward you just enough to keep you trapped.
It’s how they train you without ever raising a hand.
10. PLAYING DUMB 📌
They pretend not to understand what you’re saying, act confused, or “forget” key details, all to escape responsibility.
Don’t be fooled. It’s not stupidity, it’s strategy. Acting clueless buys them time, sympathy, or a clean way out.
And guess who ends up doing all the work? You.
CONCLUSION
Most manipulation doesn’t happen in loud arguments, it happens in smiles, silences, and small “harmless” acts.
Once you see the game, you can’t unsee it. The real power is not fighting back… it’s simply refusing to play.
But here’s the question, how many of these tricks have you forgiven in the name of love?
