Can love for anyone other than Muhammad ﷺ truly exist?
For loving anyone besides the Eraser of falsehood is blindness and transgression.

Respect a lover even if you cannot reciprocate their love. Love is sacred, so do not ridicule or mock someone simply because they opened their heart to you.

To be loved is a great honor, even though not everyone will find the sustenance of their love in your heart. Imam Shafi said:

‎فما كل من تهواه يهواك قلبه،
‎ولا كل من صافيته لك قد صفا.

“Not everyone you love will love you back,
And not everyone you are sincere with will be sincere with you.”

Treat them with respect and never say, “I don’t love you”, for such words are neither kind nor beneficial. A believer should benefit from every word they utter:

‎الكلمة الطيبة صدقة.

“A kind word is charity.”

Be kind and polite until your actions gently make it clear that you have no interest in matrimony with them, or that you are engaged to someone else or have already promised another.

You do not know what the future holds, nor do you know whom Allah has paired you with. Allah says:

لا تدري لعل الله يحدث بعد ذلك أمرا.

“You do not know—perhaps Allah will bring about something new thereafter.”

Allah is Merciful.

Ali ibn Abu Talib (r) was asked, “To what extent did you love the Prophet ﷺ?’ Ali replied, “By Allah, we loved him more than our money, wealth, fathers, mothers and cold water when one is thirsty”

[Ash-Shifaa by Ayad].

Indeed, the awliya are among us, hidden from sight
In the hearts of mothers, shining with love and light.

As the poet Al-Busiri said,

أُمّي شَفيعتي إِلى اللهِ
يَومَ لا شَفيعَ يَنفَعُ الشَفاعَة"

"My mother is my intercessor to Allah
On a day when no intercessor's plea will be accepted"

Do you know what love is? Sayyiduna Hanzala got married and a night before Uhud, he spent his first night with his wife. She loved him more than her own life. He was the most beloved person in the world to her. That was the happiest night of her life. It was the most special moments that she ever experienced. It was a precious time of joy, smiles and indescribable jubilation. Suddenly Sayyiduna Hanzala heard the calls for Uhud so he rushed out of the home with the intention of defending his beloved ﷺ. He rushed with the intention of protecting the one he loved more than anyone in this world and to assist the one he cared about more than his own life. He left with such speed on that night that he was unable to bathe(Ghusl).

On that day of Uhud, he was martyred and Rasūlullāh ﷺ saw the angels washing his body. When his wife found out about his martyrdom, she was heartbroken, she felt empty, she felt she lost her life, she felt like she lost the most beloved piece of her heart so what did she do? She never married again because he was the only one she wanted to be with in paradise. These were the stories of loyalty that existed in religion. Even our battles and wars were nothing but stories of love. May Allah grant us all the best of this world and the next.
