As a fish farmer, I've learned that water quality can make or break your operation. Recently, I had a wake-up call that reminded me of the importance of monitoring and maintaining optimal water conditions. The Red Flag was During a routine feeding session, I noticed my African catfish were struggling to eat. Normally, they'd devour 4 kg of feed, but that morning, they barely touched 2 kg. That's when I knew something was off. My Quick Action, I immediately stopped feeding and assessed the water quality. The results confirmed my suspicions, poor water quality was the culprit. I sprang into action, pumping in fresh water and aerating the pond to boost oxygen levels. The Turnaround was within a few hours, the fish began to show signs of comfort, and their appetite returned. They resumed feeding normally, and I breathed a sigh of relief. The Lesson here for this experience reinforced the importance of: 1. Regular water quality monitoring: Don't assume your pond's size or type will shield your fish from water quality issues. 2. Prompt action: Addressing water quality problems quickly can prevent long-term damage. Key Water Quality Parameters to Monitor: 1. The Smell 2. The color 3. Algae Concentration 4 The Oxygen level 5. The Temperature 6. The water level.
