Zamfara and Kaduna States have been recognised as Regional Champions in the North West Region, at the Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge.
Implemented in partnership with the Nigeria Governors' Forum, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), UNICEF, Gates Foundation and Aliko Dangote Foundation, this recognition acknowledges the States’ strong leadership and sustained commitment to improving access to quality Primary Health Care for its communities.
We commend the States for leading progress in the region and contributing to the advancement of Nigeria’s Primary Health Care goals.

📌 IMPACT Project Annual Retreat 2025
The IMPACT Project team has successfully held its Annual Retreat at the serene Global Luxury Suites in Kano. This important gathering brought together leadership from the SPHCB, SMoH, KADCHMA, KADHSMA, HPFMU, and technical teams across all project workstreams to review progress, strengthen collaboration, and chart a more impactful path forward.
With the theme “Strengthening Collaboration for Improved Health Outcomes in Kaduna State,” this year’s retreat provided a platform for deep reflection, strategic alignment, and renewed commitment to delivering high-quality primary healthcare services across the state.

Each day began with energizing jogging sessions and group walks designed to promote wellness, enhance team bonding, and prepare participants for productive engagements.

✨ Enhanced accountability structures in preparation for project closure
✨ A rich cultural excursion to Gidan Makama Museum and the Kano Zoo, offering participants a chance to relax, network informally, and appreciate the cultural heritage of Kano before the closing session led by the Permanent Secretary, SMoH

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency has commenced the Project Workplan Budget Implementation Review and 2026 Work Plan and Budgeting Finalization meeting in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The retreat provides a unique platform for in-depth reflection, open dialogue, and strategic planning towards developing a clear and actionable roadmap for the 2026 IMPACT Workplan.
Building on the gains achieved in 2025, participants are reviewing progress made, identifying challenges encountered, and developing strategies to strengthen implementation. The focus remains on accelerating progress toward reducing under-five mortality through strengthened health systems.
The objectives of the retreat include reviewing achievements, challenges, and lessons from the 2025 workplan; aligning the 2026 plan with national and state priorities, donor expectations, and organizational goals; fostering collaboration and innovation among stakeholders; and strengthening team cohesion through joint problem-solving and knowledge sharing.
Ultimately, the retreat aims to produce a realistic, actionable, and results-oriented workplan to guide implementation and performance monitoring for 2026.
