NAF HELICOPTER LANDING INSPIRES YOUTHS, STRENGTHENS COMMUNITY BOND IN NSIT IBOM - AKWA IBOM STATE
A routine flight turned into an unforgettable moment in Nsit Ibom as Nigeria marked Workers’ Day. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) demonstrated its people-focused service during a routine liaison mission within the Niger Delta area. While en route on the mission, the crew executed a precautionary landing at a primary school football field in Nsit Ibom LGA, in line with standard safety procedures. The unexpected arrival of the helicopter transformed the quiet community space into a scene of excitement, drawing children and youths from Afaha Abia and Ikot Obio Asanga villages, many witnessing a military helicopter up close for the first time. What began as a routine mission quickly evolved into a meaningful moment of connection and inspiration.
Seizing the opportunity, NAF personnel engaged warmly with the young audience, sharing insights into career pathways and emphasizing the values of discipline, service, and patriotism. The interaction ignited hope and aspiration among the youths, with several expressing a desire to join the Service. Seamless coordination between Nigerian Air Force and Nigerian Army personnel, alongside the warm reception by community leaders, further reinforced the strong bond between the military and the people. Following necessary aviation procedures, the helicopter safely departed and has since returned to base, leaving behind more than just a story, it sparked hope, pride, and stands as a powerful testament to the Nigerian Air Force’s enduring commitment to national defence, community engagement, and inspiring the next generation.

DEPOT NIGERIAN ARMY AMASIRI-EDDA HOLDS INTER COMPANY DRILL COMPETITION
In line with the training schedule for the 90th Regular Recruit Intake (90RRI), the Depot Nigerian Army, Amasiri-Edda, conducted its inter-company drill competition on Thursday, 30 April 2026, at the Depot's Temporary Training Area in Jaji Military Cantonment. The competition featured all the training companies, from Alpha to Juliet, with Charlie Training Company emerging as the overall best.
The Special Guest of Honour, Brigadier General B.O. Omopariola, commended the Depot Commandant, Brigadier General Ahmed Maikudi Ahmadu for his commitment to training and capacity building for the recruits. He described the competition as fundamental in instilling regimentation and professionalism in the Nigerian Army.
Brigadier General Omopariola further emphasized that the competition was not merely about winning medals or awards but about fostering team spirit and military discipline among the recruits. He also praised the performances of all participating companies and encouraged the instructors to continue their efforts in shaping young, eligible Nigerians into professional soldiers.
Announcing the results, the Chief Judge, Lieutenant Colonel MM Bako, explained that assessments were based on established guidelines, including turnout, foot drill arms drill and words of command and amongst others. Awards were presented to winners both in individual and group categories.
For individual awards, honours included the Overall Best Parade Commander, Best First Leg Commander, and Best Second Leg Commander. For the group assessment, Charlie Training Company claimed the top spot as overall best winner of the 90RRI inter-company drill competition while Alpha Company placed tenth.

TROOPS SUSTAIN OFFENSIVE OPERATIONS, NEUTRALISE TERRORISTS, ARREST SUSPECTS, RECORD SURRENDER IN NORTHEAST
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have sustained offensive operations across the Theatre under Operation DESERT SANITY V, recording significant successes in ongoing counter-terrorism efforts, including the neutralisation of terrorists, arrest of suspects, and surrender of a terrorist member.
In a successful operation conducted in conjunction with members of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), troops of OPHK engaged terrorists moving from Yale towards the Sambisa Forest axis. During the encounter, four terrorists were neutralised, while troops recovered one AK-47 rifle with ammunition, as well as food items suspected to be part of terrorist logistics supply. The troops returned safely to base with no casualties.
Similarly, sustained aggressive operations conducted by multiple units across key routes including Dambboa–Maiduguri, Dambboa–Gwoza, Goniri axis, and other likely infiltration corridors successfully denied terrorists freedom of movement and actions.
In a related development, troops of OPHK deployed at Kanama arrested two suspected terrorist collaborators during a stop-and-search operation. The suspects were found in possession of items and materials, including clothing and personal effects, suspected to be linked to terrorist logistics support. Preliminary investigations also revealed incriminating digital materials suggesting possible affiliation with terrorist elements. The suspects are currently in custody for further investigation.
Furthermore, troops of OPHK recorded the surrender of one suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP member at a checkpoint in Kukawa Local Government Area. The individual, who claimed to have been abducted earlier in the year and coerced into joining the terrorists group, is currently undergoing profiling and further investigation.

IGP DISU PAYS OPERATIONAL VISIT TO AKWA IBOM, PRESIDES OVER PASSING-OUT CEREMONY OF 1,068 RETRAINED CONSTABLES
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today, 30th April 2026, undertook an official visit to Akwa Ibom State, where he paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, ahead of the passing-out ceremony of retrained Police Constables in Uyo.
The engagement with the State Government focused on strengthening institutional collaboration in support of ongoing policing reforms anchored on professionalism, accountability, and intelligence-led operations.
The Inspector-General of Police reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to building a modern, service-driven institution that prioritizes public trust and operational efficiency.
Governor Umo Eno, in his remarks, welcomed the Inspector-General of Police and commended the Nigeria Police Force for its ongoing reforms aimed at improving professionalism, discipline, and service delivery. He reiterated the State Government’s readiness to continue supporting security agencies in ensuring the safety and well-being of residents.
Subsequently, the Inspector-General of Police presided over the passing-out ceremony of one thousand and sixty-eight (1,068) retrained Police Constables at the Police Mobile Force Base, 26 PMF, Uyo.
Addressing the newly retrained officers, the IGP
emphasized that the exercise was part of a deliberate effort to strengthen operational competence, particularly in weapons handling, discipline, and adherence to established rules of engagement, including Force Order 237. He noted that effective policing requires not only courage but professionalism, restraint, and respect for human rights.
The IGP reiterated the Force’s zero-tolerance stance on misuse of fi****ms and extra-judicial conduct, stressing that any officer found culpable of such acts will face immediate dismissal and prosecution in accordance with the law
