Dahiri Omo Ilorin Holds Stakeholders’ Chat, Mobilises Support for SYD, APC Candidates Ahead of 2027

Dahiri Omo Ilorin for SYD has held an Ilorin Emirate Stakeholders’ Chat with SYD, bringing together APC stakeholders, political office holders, party loyalists and other members of the Ilorin Emirate at the Banquet Hall, opposite the Government House, Ilorin.

The event, held under the theme, “One Ilorin, One Voice: Unity, Development and the Future of Kwara,” focused on unity, inclusion, development and the political future of Kwara State ahead of the 2027 elections.

In his welcome address, the Coordinator-General of Dahiri Omo Ilorin for SYD, Hon. Abdulmajeed Abdulfatai Arikewuyo, welcomed the Chief Host and Grand Patron, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON; the Special Guest of Honour, Rt. Hon. Engr. Salihu Yakubu-Danladi (SYD); traditional and religious leaders; political stakeholders; women and youth leaders; and other guests from across the Ilorin Emirate.

Arikewuyo said the gathering was conceived as an avenue for people of the Emirate to come together, exchange ideas and discuss issues concerning their collective future and the development of Kwara State. He said the initiative had grown beyond individuals and was aimed at strengthening unity and giving the people a common voice.

He explained that the group had, in recent weeks, engaged traditional rulers and other leaders across the Emirate, seeking their guidance while presenting its vision. According to him, the consultations reinforced the need for unity, fairness and inclusiveness in the political development of the state.

Speaking on the issue of equity and fairness, Arikewuyo said the emergence of Rt. Hon. Engr. Salihu Yakubu-Danladi from Kwara North had opened further discussions around political inclusion and balance across the three senatorial districts. He stressed that the initiative was not intended to create division between Kwara Central, Kwara North and Kwara South, but to promote cooperation among the different parts of the state.

He also welcomed SYD to Ilorin, saying the stakeholders were interested in hearing his vision and understanding how he intended to carry the people along if given the opportunity to lead the state.

In his remarks, the General Manager of the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP), Dr. Abdulwasiu Olayinka Tejidini, expressed support for the gathering and commended the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Tejidini highlighted what he described as developments recorded by the present administration and said his experience within KWASSIP had given him an opportunity to observe some of the government’s programmes. He also spoke about the relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government, describing SYD as someone who had supported the administration in the state legislature.

He urged participants to remain united under the platform of Dahiri Omo Ilorin for SYD and expressed support for the group’s campaign for SYD ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Also speaking with journalists, the Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters to the Kwara State Governor, Hon. Abubakar Sulaiman Sai Kayi, explained that the gathering was aimed at mobilising support for SYD among stakeholders from the Ilorin Emirate.

He said the organisers viewed the 2027 political process through the lens of equity and inclusion, particularly in relation to the distribution of political opportunities among the three senatorial districts. His comments reflected the position of the organisers and their supporters regarding SYD’s candidacy.

In his remarks at the event, the APC 2027 governorship candidate’s running mate, Ogbeni Seun Oguniyi Adato, commended the organisers for bringing stakeholders together. He said the level of participation at the event demonstrated, in his view, the level of engagement around the APC and its candidates in Ilorin and Kwara Central.

The stakeholders’ chat concluded with renewed calls from speakers for unity, cooperation and continued engagement among people of the Ilorin Emirate as the state moves towards the 2027 general elections.

Gov AbdulRazaq Appoints PDP Chieftain Mashood Mustapha as Kwara Ameerul Hajj 2027

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has approved the appointment of former House of Representatives member and Wakili of Ilorin Emirate, Alhaji Mashood Mustapha, as the Ameerul Hajj for the state’s 2027 Muslim pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

The appointment was contained in a statement issued on Thursday, September 17, 2026, by Mashood Abdulrafiu Agboola, Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.

Popularly known as MM, Mashood Mustapha is a seasoned entrepreneur, public servant and community leader. He is the Chairman of Crystal Group of Companies and a former cabinet member who represented his constituency in the House of Representatives between 2011 and 2015.

An alumnus of Kwara State Polytechnic, Lagos State University and Rome Business School, Italy, Mustapha brings his experience in public service, business and community leadership to the role.

As Ameerul Hajj, he will coordinate Kwara State’s 2027 Hajj exercise in collaboration with relevant statutory bodies and government institutions at various levels.

The appointment places Mustapha at the centre of the state’s preparations and coordination for the 2027 pilgrimage exercise.

Kwara Born Titilope Anifowoshe Makes History, Emerges Double Award Winner at LJLA Graduation

A Kwara born leadership development enthusiast, Titilope Anifowoshe, has made history after emerging as a double award recipient at the graduation ceremony of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA).

Anifowoshe received the Standout Performer Award and the Best Representation of LJLA Award, becoming the first Fellow in the history of the Academy to receive two awards at a single graduation ceremony.

The Standout Performer Award recognised her exceptional performance, consistency and commitment throughout her rotations across various Management Development Agencies (MDAs), while the Best Representation of LJLA Award acknowledged her conduct, service, integrity and the manner in which she represented the Academy.

She was among 30 Fellows who successfully completed the Academy’s leadership development programme, which is designed to equip young Nigerians with the knowledge, skills and mindset required to contribute meaningfully to society and public service.

Reacting to the recognition, Anifowoshe expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu, for providing the opportunity through the Academy, as well as the leadership and faculty of LJLA for their guidance, mentorship and support throughout the programme.

She described the awards as a testament to the importance of preparation, perseverance and purposeful leadership, while also acknowledging the people and opportunities that contributed to her achievement.

The double recognition marks another significant milestone in Anifowoshe’s leadership journey and further highlights the contributions of young professionals from Kwara State to leadership development, governance and public service.

The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, an initiative of the Lagos State Government, provides young Nigerians with practical exposure, mentorship and leadership training aimed at nurturing the next generation of leaders.

Anifowoshe’s achievement is therefore being seen as a noteworthy recognition of excellence, dedication and purposeful leadership among young Nigerians.

Two Lawmakers Lose Seats as Kwara Assembly Rules on Defection

The Kwara State House of Assembly (KWHA) has declared the seats of Hon. Saaba Issa Gedeon, representing Edu Constituency, and Hon. Olusola Odetundun, representing Irepodun Constituency, vacant following their defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The decision followed a letter from the Kwara State APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, addressed to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, requesting that the seats be declared vacant in accordance with Section 109(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In the letter, the APC chairman argued that the two lawmakers were elected on the platform of the APC and that there was no division within the party to justify their defection to another political party.

Leading the debate on the matter, the Leader of the House, Hon. Oba Mogaji, described the issue as a constitutional one, citing Section 109(1)(g), which provides grounds under which a member of a State House of Assembly may lose their seat after defecting from the political party on whose platform they were elected.

He noted that the two lawmakers had defected from the APC to the PDP and were seeking re election on the platform of the opposition party, describing the development as contrary to the constitutional provision.

Hon. Mogaji therefore supported the request for the seats to be declared vacant in accordance with the law.

Other lawmakers who spoke in support of the motion included Hon. Abolarin Ganiyu Gabriel, representing Ekiti Constituency; Hon. Ganiyu Folabi, representing Omupo Constituency; and Hon. Adato Oguniyi, representing Ojomu/Balogun Constituency.

Following the contributions, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, declared the seats representing Edu and Irepodun Constituencies vacant, in line with the resolution of the House.

Kwara 2027: Gov. AbdulRahman’s Legacy Projects Will Guarantee APC Landslide Victory, Says Engr. Olododo

The 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ilorin East/South Federal Constituency, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, has declared that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s people-centred projects and achievements since 2019 will secure a landslide victory for APC candidates in Kwara at the 2027 general elections.

Featuring on Sobi FM’s Oro Ilu programme, the former Commissioner for Works asserted that no previous governor in the state’s history matched AbdulRazaq’s record in infrastructure, youth empowerment, job creation and inclusive governance.

Reflecting on his tenure as General Manager of the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP), Olododo described the agency as a pioneer sub-national social safety net programme in Nigeria. He said the programme had impacted more than 200,000 residents and empowered nearly 1,000 young entrepreneurs through initiatives including Owo Isowo, Owo Arugbo and Kwapreneur.

On infrastructure, he highlighted extensive urban and rural road rehabilitation projects, including Taiwo Road, Unity Road and Ahmadu Bello Way, as well as projects he said had been neglected by previous administrations since 1999, including the Osin Laduba Road, Yebumot-Adeta dualisation and the recently-completed Eiyekorin-Ojoku-Offa economic corridor.

Olododo also praised the administration’s investments in the digital and creative economy, citing the Ilorin Innovation Hub and Sugar Film Factory as examples of initiatives aimed at creating opportunities for young people.

He noted similar progress in agriculture, saying more than 10,000 farmers had received inputs and 100 tractors had been deployed, while strategic livestock partnerships, including dairy collection centres with Friesland Campina Wamco and an upcoming value chain project under the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in Mal

PSN Kwara Elects Munirat Akanbi-Bello as First Female Chairman

Munirat Kikelomo Akanbi Bello has been elected Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Kwara State Branch, making history as the first woman to occupy the position since the establishment of the branch.

Pharm. Akanbi Bello emerged victorious at the branch’s election held on Saturday in Ilorin, defeating two other male candidates to secure the leadership position.

Reacting to her victory, the newly elected chairman expressed appreciation to members of the association for the confidence, support and trust reposed in her.

“This victory is not mine alone; it is ours. It is a testament to our collective strength, unity and belief in a greater PSN Kwara,” she said.»

Pharm. Akanbi Bello pledged to lead the association with integrity, transparency, inclusiveness and dedication, assuring members that their interests and welfare would remain central to her administration.

She also promised to work tirelessly towards advancing the pharmaceutical profession, protecting the integrity of pharmacy practice and improving the welfare of pharmacists across Kwara State.

Her emergence represents a significant milestone for women’s leadership in the pharmaceutical profession in Kwara State and is expected to further encourage greater female participation in professional leadership.
