President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.

The appointment was announced in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.

According to the statement, the appointment reflects the Tinubu administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination, enhancing intelligence-driven operations, and improving inter-agency collaboration in tackling emerging security challenges across the country.

Major General Fadewa, a highly decorated retired military officer, has over three decades of experience in military and intelligence service, covering national security strategy, counter-terrorism operations, intelligence coordination, and international security diplomacy.

During his tenure, he spearheaded the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC) at ONSA, an integrated platform designed to strengthen collaboration among key security agencies, including the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.

The President also urged him to deploy his experience and professionalism in advancing national security objectives in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

OPERATION HADIN KAI TROOPS DEFEAT ISWAP ATTEMPT ON GONORI, DECIMATE TERRORISTS IN DEVASTATING AIR-LAND ONSLAUGHT

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have dealt a crushing blow to ISWAP terrorists, decisively defeating a lnight attack on 120 Task Force Battalion Gonori under Sector 2 in the late hours of Saturday, 9 May 2026 up till the early morning of Sunday 10 May 2026. The terrorists, advancing from the Mandunari axis at around midnight were detected early by an ambush team. Troops immediately executed a well-coordinated spoiling attack which caught the terrorists in a devastating killing zone. No part of the camp was breached and no equipment was lost. Platforms from the Air Component of OPHK and the Nigerian Army Aviation earlier scrambled subsequently completed a well synchronised air-land assault that decimated the retreating insurgents and sealed the totality of their defeat.

Exploitation of the general area revealed extensive blood trails, body parts and battle damage consistent with scores of terrorist casualties, in addition to terrorist corpses recovered within the immediate vicinity. Items recovered include one x General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), 2 x PKT, 5 x AK-47 rifles, several belts of assorted ammunition, and other personal effects, further confirming the scale of the failed assault. Wounded soldiers are stable and receiving appropriate medical attention. Exploitation operations are still ongoing within the general area to consolidate gains and track fleeing terrorists. This latest failed attack reinforces the unrelenting operational dominance of OPHK and the futility of terrorist aggression against well-fortified and battle-ready troops across the Theatre.

Again, Kwara North appeals for zoning of governorship, rejects Central candidacy

Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara North Senatorial District have renewed their call on the party’s leadership at both state and national levels to zone the 2027 governorship ticket to Kwara North, warning that any move to pick the candidate from Kwara Central could threaten party unity and electoral fortunes.

The group made the appeal on Thursday, May 7, 2026, during a press conference held at the Kwara State Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Ilorin.

Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, Sen. Mohammed Ahmed mni, Wazirin Yashikira, said the demand was based on fairness, equity and the long-standing agitation that Kwara North, since the return of democracy in 1999, has never produced a governor.

He recalled that the group had earlier addressed journalists on April 13, 2026, insisting that the APC should concede the governorship slot to Kwara North in line with the calls of party elders and well-meaning Kwarans across the state and in the diaspora.

According to him, by 2027, Kwara Central would have produced a governor for 20 years, with Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq completing his tenure, while Kwara South has also produced a governor for eight years through former Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed.

The stakeholders also referenced the April 14 “Unity Rally” held at the Metropolitan Square, Ilorin, which they said was organised with the approval and support of the Kwara APC leadership to galvanise support for aspirants from Kwara North and encourage them towards producing a consensus candidate.

They further recalled the April 25 press conference by members of the Kwara State APC Elders Caucus, where Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar was endorsed as the preferred aspirant from Kwara North for the APC governorship ticket.

However, the group expressed concern over what it described as emerging information that the party leadership had allegedly decided to pick the 2027 governorship candidate from Kwara Central.

They said the situation was worsened by reports that Senator Sadiq Umar had collected nomination forms to return to the Senate instead of seeking the governorship ticket, allegedly at the instance of party leadership.

The stakeholders described the development as a betrayal that had caused “shock waves and sadness” among the people of Kwara North, noting that it could disrupt existing zoning arrangements within the senatorial district.

They warned that failure to reverse such a decision could delay Kwara North’s chance of producing a governor for another 32 to 36 years, while also affecting the chances of Kwara South producing another governor for up to 24 years.

The group cautioned that the situation could be “devastating, unfair and unjust,” and may threaten the unity of the state.

They also warned that continued exclusion of Kwara North could lead to political apathy not only in Kwara North but also in Kwara South, with possible negative consequences for the APC in the 2027 general elections.

The stakeholders therefore appealed passionately to the APC leadership to reconsider and zone the governorship ticket to Kwara North, saying such a decision would promote justice, fairness, equity, and sustain peace and harmony across Kwara State.

“We are hereby making passionate appeal and request to the leadership of our great party to show compassion and review the present decision by picking the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election from Kwara North,” the statement concluded.

Troops Rescue Kidnapped Orphanage Victims, Arrest Suspected Terrorist Courier in Kogi

Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have rescued kidnapped victims from the Daarul-Kitab Islamic Orphanage and arrested a suspected terrorist ammunition courier in separate operations carried out in Kogi State.

The operations, conducted on May 6, 2026, were part of ongoing military efforts under Operation TIGER PAW II to combat kidnapping and terrorism-related activities in the North Central region.

According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, troops successfully rescued the remaining abducted victims of the Daarul-Kitab Islamic Orphanage after sustained search and rescue operations in the Agbaja Forest area of Lokoja Local Government Area.

The military said troops acting on credible intelligence and maintaining operational pressure intercepted and recovered the victims through the Brigade’s Blocking Force.

The rescued victims include five boys, two girls, and two adult women believed to be wives of the orphanage proprietor.

They were immediately evacuated to the 12 Brigade Medical Centre for treatment and first aid, while authorities confirmed that all the victims are in stable condition.

In a related operation carried out the same day, troops reportedly intercepted a suspected terrorist ammunition courier along the Obajana–Lokoja road in Lokoja Local Government Area.

The suspect, identified as Yahaya Umar, was arrested while allegedly transporting 500 rounds of 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition concealed in a bag of maize.

Preliminary investigations, according to the Army, revealed that the suspect was involved in the logistics movement of arms and ammunition for terrorist groups operating across states in the North Central region.

The military further disclosed that the ammunition was allegedly handed over to the suspect at Obajana Forest and was being transported to Dikko Junction in Suleja, Niger State, for delivery to an unidentified terrorist operative.

The suspect is currently in military custody and undergoing interrogation as security agencies intensify efforts to dismantle the criminal network and apprehend other members of the syndicate.

The Nigerian Army said the successful operations reaffirm its commitment to protecting lives and property, while sustaining pressure against terrorists and their collaborators.

The Army also urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support ongoing security operations.

Remi Tinubu flags off 2026 farming season, distributes tractors, fertiliser to Niger farmers

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday flagged off the 2026 farming season in Niger State with the distribution of mechanisation support equipment and farm inputs to farmers across the state’s 25 local government areas.

The flag-off ceremony, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, Minna, attracted top government officials, ministers, the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), members of the Niger State Executive Council and key stakeholders in the agricultural sector.

Items unveiled at the event included 250 tractors, 50 combine harvesters, 150,000 bags of fertiliser, 1,500 planters, ploughs, boom sprayers and harrows.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Tinubu commended Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for prioritising agriculture, describing Niger as one of Nigeria’s leading agricultural hubs. She said the governor’s approach had further proven that agriculture remains a viable path to prosperity, job creation and sustainable development.

According to her, the intervention was a strong signal of Nigeria’s readiness to feed itself and a deliberate shift from subsistence farming to mechanised and commercially driven agriculture.

“This gesture will empower farmers with the tools needed to increase productivity, enhance livelihoods and strengthen the Gross Domestic Product of the country,” she said.

The First Lady added that the Niger State initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that food availability and affordability remain national priorities. She urged farmers to utilise the equipment effectively and embrace modern farming methods to maximise productivity in the new season.

In his remarks, Governor Bago said his administration’s investment in agriculture is targeted at supporting farming activities on 120,000 hectares of land across the state, creating about 3,000 direct and indirect jobs, and producing an estimated 500,000 tons of assorted food products per farming season during both wet and dry cycles.

He noted that the distribution of the equipment and inputs would strengthen the entire agricultural value chain beyond Niger State, adding that his government would expand irrigation facilities to allow multiple cycles of production yearly.

The governor also said modalities would be developed for off-taking farm produce to address post-harvest losses, urging farmers and stakeholders to partner with Niger Food Security and Logistics Limited, a state-owned enterprise, to achieve set targets.

Governor Bago appealed to the First Lady to sustain support for Niger State by facilitating more agricultural investments, citing the state’s untapped agricultural potential.

Also speaking at the event, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, applauded the initiative, saying Niger State is positioned to become a hub for food security, especially with the proposed completion of the Sokoto-Badagry coastal superhighway project.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, described agriculture as critical to Nigeria’s economy, adding that the Federal Government is exploring more measures to ensure the sector continues to contribute significantly to national GDP growth.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, said the Federal Government is strengthening partnerships with states and stakeholders to boost food production, noting that Niger State, with Nigeria’s largest arable land, is playing a leading role in driving agricultural productivity.

Chairman of Niger Foods Security Systems and Logistics, Mr. Sammy Adigun, said the state’s vast natural resources position it for agricultural expansion, adding that Niger Foods is collaborating with partners to cultivate more land through mechanisation.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Isah Sidi Rijau, said the intervention aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Federal Government’s food security drive, assuring that Niger State would continue to complement national efforts to achieve food sovereignty.

The Secretary to the Niger State Government, Abubakar Usman, described the flag-off as a major milestone in the state’s mechanisation programme, reflecting the administration’s resolve to modernise farming and empower farmers.

In a goodwill message, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Yahaya Abubakar, represented by the Emir of Agaie, Yusuf Nuhu, described the intervention as remarkable, saying it would help address food insecurity.

Kwara APC Elders warn AbdulRazaq against picking 2027 guber candidate from Kwara Central

ILORIN — The Kwara State All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Caucus has cautioned Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq against endorsing a governorship candidate from Kwara Central Senatorial District for the 2027 general election, insisting that the party must present a candidate from Kwara North.

The caucus made the call in an open letter addressed to the governor, amid speculations that some groups were allegedly lobbying him to drop the agitation for power shift to Kwara North and instead support a candidate from Kwara Central.

The elders claimed that the alleged move was being proposed as part of a political arrangement to pave the way for AbdulRazaq to contest the Kwara Central Senatorial seat in 2027.

“It is speculated that some unscrupulous persons or groups are prompting Your Excellency to jettison the idea of picking an aspirant of Kwara North extraction in favour of another person from Kwara Central Senatorial District,” the letter read.

According to the group, such a decision would be “unjustifiable and unacceptable” to the people of Kwara North and Kwara South, warning that it could create the impression that the governorship seat is permanently reserved for Kwara Central.

The caucus further reminded the governor of what it described as his earlier commitment to support a Kwara North candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

They claimed that in 2023, AbdulRazaq assured elders from Kwara North during a courtesy visit that he would back a candidate from the district in the next election.

The elders also referenced the governor’s alleged directive to the Kwara APC leadership to invite only aspirants from Kwara North for consultations aimed at achieving consensus.

They also cited a mega rally held on April 14, 2026, at the Metropolitan Square, Ilorin, which they said was organised with the governor’s support to galvanise backing for a unified Kwara North candidate.

The group warned that any move to frustrate the power shift demand could jeopardise the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.

They argued that Kwara North has consistently delivered votes that contributed to the electoral victories of candidates from the other two senatorial districts over the past 27 years.

The caucus advised the governor to resist what it described as “nefarious calls” from individuals allegedly pushing him to sacrifice the interest of Kwara North for personal ambition.

They also recommended the immediate setting up of a “consultative assembly” comprising APC critical stakeholders in the state to determine a consensus governorship candidate from Kwara North that would be submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The letter was jointly signed by Sir Chief (Dr.) James Bamisaiye Ayenioye JP (Chairman, Kwara South), Sen. Mohammed Inuwa Ahmed mni (Deputy Chairman, Kwara North), Ayinla Salman Jawondo SAN (Deputy Chairman, Kwara Central), and Hon. Abdulmumin Sidiq Katibi (Secretary).

Copies of the letter were also forwarded to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the APC National Chairman, and the APC State Chairman in Kwara.
