Terrorists during church Saturday night vigil have killed three persons and abducted 15 worshippers in an attack at Ori-Oke Ajaiye in the outskirts of Ikiran village of Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara state.
Newsmen report that the gruesome attack occurred while the worshippers were observing night vigil at about 20:30hours, thereby causing pandemonium within the surrounding communities.
Sources in the area had earlier disclosed that armed terrorists stormed the community in large numbers, attacking worshippers and residents before they fled through nearby forest routes.
Confirming the development,on Sunday, the spokesperson, of the state police command SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi strongly condemned the gruesome attack, killing, and abduction of innocent worshippers by the armed criminals.
The Commissioner in the statement described the attack as barbaric, callous, and unacceptable, assuring the families of the deceased, the injured, and the abducted victims that the command is fully committed to ensuring the rescue of all victims and the apprehension of the perpetrators behind the heinous act.
The command also assured residents of Ekiti LGA and the entire state that vigorous efforts are ongoing, including bush combing, intelligence gathering, and coordinated security operations to track down the assailants and bring them to justice.

The Oyo State Muslim Pilgrims' Welfare Board has intensified preparations to ensure that pilgrims from the state perform the major Hajj rites successfully through the inspection of facilities allocated to the state in Arafat and Mina by Mashariq Al-Dahabiah, the Service Provider appointed by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) for all Nigerian States in Saudi Arabia.
Facilities inspected by officials of the Board, led by its Secretary, Mr Kamorudeen Babatunde Fasasi, included tents, beds, toilets, security apparatus and other essential amenities.
Route assessments were also carried out to aid the easy movement of pilgrims from one point to another in Arafat, Mina and Muzdalifah during the spiritual Hajj rites, scheduled for the holy sites in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Speaking shortly after the inspection tour on Thursday in Mina on behalf of the Chairman of the Board, Sheikh Abdul-Wahab Atere Hashim Olamide, JP, the Secretary of the Board, Mr.Kamorudeen Babatunde Fasasi, revealed that an advance team would be deployed to each location to put necessary arrangements in place before the arrival of the pilgrims.
He hinted that all pilgrims from the state were getting set for the spiritual rites, which will commence on Monday, May 25, 2026.
The Chairman further disclosed that the pilgrims would depart Makkah for Mina on Sunday, May 24, 2026, and proceed to Arafat the following day.
โAlhamdulillahi, preparations for the much-awaited last five days of Hajj are in top gear. Our pilgrims are doing well. We held a series of lectures on how best to perform Hajj, delivered by erudite Islamic scholars, and I believe our pilgrims are now better informed.
โWe equally organised a seven-day special prayer and recitation of the Holy Quran to seek Allahโs continuous guidance before, during and after Arafat, while the final session of the special prayer is scheduled to hold on the Day of Arafat.โ
Sheikh Atere lauded the continued cooperation of the pilgrims and urged them to take advantage of the glorious Day of Arafat to pray for
themselves, their families, well-wishers, Oyo State, the entire Muslim ummah and an end to insecurity in Nigeria .
He also appreciated the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his continuous support for the Board.
In separate lectures delivered by the Special Adviser to the Oyo State Governor on Islamic Affairs, Alhaji (Imam) Abdul- Rasheed Abdul- Azees, Islamic Scholars; Dr Ibrahim Adebolu and Dr Ibrahim Adelani gave detailed explanations on every stage of the spiritual rites .
The trio admonished the pilgrims not to engage in unnecessary activities during the period but abide by the instructions of the leadership of the Board.
Dr Adelani also admonished pilgrims not to keep malice against anyone but endeavor to reconcile with concerned individuals, saying that Islam encourages forgiveness, peace, unity and mutual understanding among believers.
Emphasizing that love for one's country is part of belief, Dr Abdul- Abdul- Rasheed , urged the pilgrims to pray for our dear country and state for security and peace to reign.

The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed rumours of an alleged curfew and movement restrictions within and outside Ibadan, assuring residents that there is no security threat warranting panic.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, the command described the reports circulating in some quarters as false and misleading.
The police assured residents that adequate security measures have been put in place across the state, with officers and operatives strategically deployed to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of lives and properties.
The command also warned individuals and groups against spreading false information or unverified reports capable of causing panic and fear among the public, stressing that anyone found culpable would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Residents were advised to disregard the rumours and continue with their lawful activities without fear, while the command reiterated that any official security directive or emergency measure would only be communicated through verified official channels.
The police further urged members of the public to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies in the collective effort to sustain peace and public order across Oyo State.

Oyo govt suspends excursions, inter-school activities, others over insecurity
Oyo State Government has suspended all school excursions, field trips, sports competitions and other activities outside school premises in the state.
PUNCH Online reports that the directive comes after last weekโs deadly coordinated abduction attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area โ where several students, teachers who were abducted still remain captive.
The directive, issued by the state Ministry of Education, takes immediate effect and overrides all previously approved trips and external school activities.
In a circular dated May 22, 2026 and signed by the ministryโs Permanent Secretary, Mrs B.T. Oyinloye, and addressed to education authorities across the state, the government said the move was prompted by rising security fears after the Ogbomoso kidnapping incidentAccording to the circular, the directive became necessary โin view of the recent security concernsโ.
The circular stated: โIn view of the recent security concerns, the Ministry is taking steps to safeguard the lives of students and members of staff in all schools in Oyo State.
โAll School Administrators are hereby directed to suspend all excursions, field trips, sportscompetitions and any other activities that require moving students outside school premises until further notice.
Kindly note further that prior approvals granted by the Ministry are hereby overridden by this directive.

BREAKING: President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose tenure expires on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Presidentโs Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Aina is a professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, with expertise in digital infrastructure, national examination systems and institutional reforms.
โProfessor Aina, who will be 40 in July, is a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform.
