I met with the young leaders we are mentoring Ibadan, after their summer break and it felt great, the energy was wonderful and they were all looking fresh for their respective classes.

I introduced them to self-awareness which is part of project Lead20’s goal to equip students with leadership skills.

What is self awareness? according to oxford dictionary it’s a conscious knowledge of one's own character and feelings.

For you to live a purposeful life that leads to you adding value to your world, there’s a need to first know your self. You need to understand your strengths as well as your weaknesses.

It’s becoming more difficult to know oneself with plenty of distractions from our environment and social media, but here are some few points that’s shared by klare Heston on how to get to know yourself;
1. Learn to be honest with yourself. When you are dishonest with yourself you only get short term happiness but in the long run it’s unhealthy and destructive
2. Ask yourself thoughtful questions. With this knowledge you can distinguish between what makes you happy or stressed, some of those questions you should always ask yourself include;
• what do you want your legacy to be?
• What do you love doing?
• What are your dreams in life?
• Who’s your role model?
3. Pay attention to your inner voice.
What is your inner voice telling you about yourself?
Do you talk about success or failure? Be optimistic in your thoughts
4. Incorporate mindfulness to into your day.
Mindfulness is a state of attention to yourself and the world you’re experiencing, you can get to this state by meditating.

When you find yourself thinking negatively take a step back and ask why are you thinking in such manner you could share your thoughts with a friend or a mentor when necessary.

The moment we start becoming aware of ourselves and thinking positively, we are on the path to building better world.

Remember each person has a right to be oneself, a right to think, to think about life, to think about purpose, and as a man think so he is.

You can change the world, if you want to but first you have to become aware of who you are.

Independence Day
One of our goals of Project Lead20 is to educate students on leadership principles using history.

Today we celebrate the independence of our Nation Nigeria and we remember the sacrifice of our Heroes and the legacy our founding fathers, individuals such as our amiable Anthony Enahoro, Nnamdi Azikwe, Tafawa Balewa, Ahmadu Bello, Obafemi Awolowo, Dr Endeley and all the others that have created positive policies for the unity and progress of Nigeria, we remember and appreciate your love, for this great Nation and the sacrifice you have made towards our independence.

Our first prime minister during his independence speech made a remark that is still very relevant today that the future of this country depends on we helping ourselves (a call for unity), which can be achieve through respect and trust.
Nigeria remains a fruitful Nation from 33 million people in 1960 to over 200 million in 2019 what a great place to call home.

Take a minute to imagine 200 million people coming together to help Nigeria.

If we can achieve the task of helping Nigeria and not waiting for Nigeria to help us, trust me we would not only be lifting Nigerians out of economic instability but we would be leading this generation to a more peaceful and sustainable world.

God bless Nigeria and once again happy independence from our team
