PASTOR W F KUMUYI Fellow Defender of the Faith

HOW PASTOR KUMUYI ANSWERED JORNALISTS WHEN QUESTIONED ABOUT WHETHER TELEVISION IS SATAN'S BOX.

Pastor Kumuyi will preach then and you weep for your life. The power was so much.

I have only seen few preachers like him with supernatural force that moves people to do the unthinkable.

At that time,those who have Concordance Commentary references were few. Those who preached like him were few. There was no Internet, and only few of his members read other books by other authors. They only read more books authored by Kumuyi than other authors.

So when he preached the message against television,many people sincerely believed it without asking questions about what and why.

Even pastor Kumuyi forgot to mention radio as younger brother of devil's box. May be people would have thrown their radio away into the bush too.

Yes, I will totally agree that visual information is more powerful than audio information. Yet both can be corrupted to affect the mind negatively.

The Bible says faith comes by hearing,so also hearing wrong things from radio can destroy faith and corrupt the heart.

I wonder why the law that bound television didn't bound radio then.

Or it's because radio cassettes recording were more in vogue then and people listen to church messages on cassette through radio. Else bad things happen on radio as well if not controlled.

We thank God now that Sanctification message has improvised another means by which believers can watch television and still avoid it's bad influence without throwing them away.

At that time,they preached sanctification by works tinted with unrealistic grace. Now they have upgraded sanctification to a life that grace offers without struggle or destroying any gadgets. If not, people would have still been destroying many electronic gadgets around them.

Gone were the days shaking of hands with opposite s*x was preached as sin. Now if you preach it, even Jesus will tell you that is not gospel message.

So back to the early 2000 when jornalists asked Pastor Kumuyi if he preached that Television is devil's box?

Pastor Kumuyi indirectly denied it to the journalist by saying: "...I am a scientist,a mathematician and I can't say something like that from my wealth of knowledge....it is people that misquoted me out of context"

Hmmm.... they misquoted you out of context and will come to church to share testimony about throwing television into dust bin and you won't correct them outrightly on pulpit then. Because you felt good about it.

Instead to admit he caused it by preaching it wrongly,he won't.

He will rather stylishly say he will correct wrong human additions he established. Which he is actually doing his best in that regard. But to openly admit he is wrong in front of people,I have not seen it.

Except when his second son got married and people reacted against breaking the church's unwritten rules that he tried withdrew from pulpit but other leaders rejected he should not do it.

He had disciplined others for flimsy offenses,now it dawned on him too and he then realized how he had been wrong capitalizing on flimsy offenses that even God won't see as sinful.

For example, pastor Kumuyi disciplined someone close to him because he told certain youths not to call him brother again but pastor.
He was a coordinator and pastor Kumuyi was the only pastor in the church then. Those people went to report him to pastor Kumuyi and pastor Kumuyi called him to tell him he was carnal to have told those people to be calling him pastor.

Get the background,all of them were living in the same compound, they are children or very very younger and the coordinator deserves respect. At last he was placed on three months discipline by pastor Kumuyi because of that flimsy case that has nothing to do with Sin.

Such were the human factor imbibed into Bible teachings then. Everyone will now become fearful and fidget. Sanctification turned sanctimonious lifestyle.

Every believer now who will be sincere to herself or himself must also understand that that was the limit of illumination they were exposed to then. If they knew better, they would have done better.

Even their exploits for God then was far more greater than their mistakes.

To me,I will say when pastor Kumuyi preached against Television,he was only preaching against unrighteousness but was carried away by the physical results of people throwing away those gadgets. He felt his preaching generated revival of throwing away things and kept quiet. A thin line between good fanatism and superficial fanatism.

The fanatism was superficial because it was short-lived and not sustainable.

It is better to teach God's righteousness to people in a way that is sustainable. At this point,you don't even need to tell people something is of the devil,they will know by themselves and it will be strictly personal to them.

Still I salute the grace of God in His servant, pastor Kumuyi. To this,it will ever be on record that he did his best.

May we learn from their mistakes to improve our lifestyle in Christ too. Reason Bible is also full of mistakes of others.

So don't blame, simply learn.

"MY CHURCH IS BETTER THAN YOUR CHURCH"

Denominationalism remains one of the greatest enemies of the Body of Christ today.

I will not be tired of saying it; until you realize the mess you're in.

Because of denominationalism, unhealthy competition has taken over the place. Instead of believers working together as the early church, you now see so-called "Christians" compete against one another like rival companies trying to get customers to get their products.

In fact, that is what it is... It's a business.

Because tell me, why would a Deeper Life member go to the street to evangelize and the moment they see you on earrings they want to preach to you, to win you to their church.

Even after telling them that you're a "Christian", they still want to convince you that their church is the "best"; you see believers passionately evangelizing other believers, that's what I called "recycled christianity" in a post some times ago.

You see people moving from one church to another, trying hard to convert Christians from different denominations into their own. Their focus is no longer on winning lost souls for Christ, but on pulling members from other churches, often driven by financial gain and the desire to increase numbers.

In Living Faith, Redeemed Christian Church of God amongst others, pastor's effectiveness are measured by numbers and huge financial returns. You are not ready for this conversation, but I will still talk about it.

You see churches sacking pastors because they are not bringing customers enough... Uhmm.

On one street alone, you will see Assemblies of God, Lord's Chosen, Deeper Life, RCCG, Winners, and you will be finding it difficult to hear from one direction, they are testing who has the best sound system.

You see, through denominationalism, many people are quick to start their own churches, after leaving another church, not because God called them, but because they want to cash out. Their real aim is usually to make money from other people's sweat and to become popular and influential.

If denominationalism is completely removed, if tithe and seed sowing is removed, if people begin to study the Bible themselves, you will see that a lot of people who claim to be "pastors" and passionate for Christ will suddenly disappear.

You know why?

That's because their fire is fanned by "money"; the real driving force behind their "passion" was competition, numbers, and personal benefit.

Only then will we clearly separate the genuine lovers of Christ from the chaff.

Remove denominationalism, and most of the fake practices we see in the Body of Christ will naturally fade away.

One major reason why there is so much extortion and financial manipulation is denominationalism.

When denominationalism ends, we will begin to see real evangelism in action, the real love and call to service and true soul-winning. And I believe we will witness the fastest growth in the Lord's Church.

Oh, how I long to see the end of denominationalism and see the true Body of Christ!

A body that lives according to the dictates of Christ and the scriptures; a body that is patterned after the New Testament Church.

Oh Lord, open the eyes of these people!
