WARM-UP ROUTINES

Warming up your voice is essential before any singing session. Just like athletes stretch before a workout to prevent injury and improve performance, singers need to warm up their vocal cords to avoid strain and get the best sound possible.

Here are a few simple warm-up routines:

- Lip trills: This involves buzzing your lips while gently making a sound, starting low and going higher. It helps relax your vocal cords and get your breath flowing smoothly.

- Humming: Start by humming in a comfortable range, then slowly move up and down the scale. This helps you focus on resonance (where the sound is placed) and warms up your voice gently.

- Sirens: This exercise involves sliding from a low note to a high note (and back down) in one smooth motion. Think of it like mimicking the sound of a siren. It helps loosen up your vocal range and build flexibility.

- Scales: Singing up and down scales is a classic warm-up that strengthens your pitch accuracy and vocal range.

A good warm-up session should last about 10–15 minutes and helps prepare your voice for more intense singing, reducing the risk of damage.

Keep getting better singing!

Dear Parents,

If your child loves singing, what should you do?

The first reaction should not be to hush them because their voice isn’t “perfect” yet.

Every great singer started somewhere, even the ones you admire today.

So whether your child sounds amazing or still developing, here’s what to do 👇🏽

✅ Encourage them
Tell them you love that they enjoy singing.

✅ Let them sing freely at home
A free voice becomes a confident voice.

✅ Expose them to good music
Their ears will grow before their voice does.

✅ Correct with love
No harsh words — children bloom under kindness.

✅ Join a choir or music club
Community builds skill and confidence.

✅ Consider voice training
A vocal coach can guide them early and properly.

✅ Celebrate small wins
Tiny progress adds up to big talent.

✅ Nurture the gift. Don’t silence it.
You might just be raising the next music star 🌟

Keep getting better singing!

🎤 WHY EVERY SINGER NEEDS VOCAL TRAINING 🎤

I remember a young singer who once told me,
“Coach, I don’t need training. I’ve been singing since I was little. My voice is natural.”

So, she kept singing.
She sang at events, in church, with friends and anywhere people would listen.

But soon, cracks started showing.
Her voice would get tired halfway through songs.
High notes that once felt easy began to sound shaky.
Sometimes, she even lost her voice after just one performance.

It wasn’t because she wasn’t talented.
It wasn’t because she didn’t love music.
It was because raw talent, left untrained, cannot carry you for long.

Here’s the truth:
🏋🏽‍♀️ Athletes train to strengthen their muscles.
🎹 Pianists practice scales to keep their fingers sharp.
And singers? We must train our voices.

Vocal training teaches you how to:
✅ Protect your voice from strain and damage
✅ Sing higher, longer, and stronger without cracks
✅ Control your breathing so you don’t run out of air mid-song
✅ Build confidence to step on any stage and deliver with power

Because your voice is an instrument, and no instrument plays beautifully forever without care and practice.

Think about it…
Would you drive a car for years without servicing it? 🚗
Then why keep singing without training the one instrument you’ll carry for life, which is your voice?

If you’ve ever asked yourself,
“Why do I keep losing my voice?”
“Why do I get tired when I sing?”
“Why can’t I hit those notes like before?”

The answer is simple: You need vocal training.

Not to change your voice.
But to bring out the best in it.

💜 Your gift is too precious to be wasted.
It’s time to train it.

Are you ready to stop struggling and start singing with freedom?

🎤 I’ve been away for quite a while now.
No post. No warning. Just some quiet time.

And maybe you too have been quiet with your singing…
Left your warm-ups undone.
Skipped your breath exercises.
Sang here and there but without consistency.

It happens. Life gets busy.
But here’s the truth—your voice grows stronger with routine, not random moments.

While I was away, I wasn’t absent. I was refreshing. Resetting.
And now, I’m back—
Not just with songs, but with structure.
Not just with vibes, but with strategies that will help you sing better, stronger, longer.

Because your voice is not weak.
It just needs order.
You don’t need to quit.
You only need a routine that works.

During my break, I focused on:
✅ Proper vocal rest
✅ Breathwork and conditioning
✅ Deep thinking and planning for your growth as singers
✅ Hosting events

This is what I call a SING WITH RUTHIE Reset.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your voice is pause, realign, and return with fresh energy.

So here’s your reminder:
You can sing beautifully.
You can grow consistently.
All you need is the right structure.

The reset starts now.

Welcome back to Sing with Ruthie. 💜

Why You Still Need a Vocal Coach (Even With Free Content Everywhere!)

I say this a lot to my students, and now I’m saying it to you:

Why do you need a vocal coach when there are thousands of free voice training videos online?

The truth is—that’s exactly why you need one!

With unlimited access to information comes confusion, and let’s be honest—not all information is correct. Some of it may even damage your voice rather than improve it.

So, what does a vocal coach do?

👉 Guides you on the right path
👉 Corrects your vocal mistakes
👉 Gives you support and structure
👉 Encourages you when you feel stuck or ready to give up

These are things you can’t get by jumping from one video to the next.

Do yourself a favor—invest in your voice.
Work with someone who truly cares about your growth.

I’m currently open for private vocal sessions.
Send me a DM and let’s get started on this amazing journey together!

With love,
Your favorite vocal coach,

How BAD is Your Ear?

❌1. If you play the keyboard or any instrument, and you need to touch 15 keys before you can get the key of a song, your ear is not working well.

I saw a keyboardist look for a song's key till halfway into the song.
He still ended up playing the wrong key.

BTW, you don’t need more than 3 (max)
And I'm not trying to insult you, just stay with me for a bit.

❌2. As a singer, If you go off key a lot, your hearing is bad.
Flats everywhere.
Try a duplex for once. 😄

❌3. If we do a simple semitone or whole tone modulation and you’ve gone to key X, you need to work on your hearing.
Finding ‘X’ is not what we do in music.

❌4. If you cannot transcribe (score) simple songs accurately by ear, then you need an ear upgrade.

How well you play/sing is largely a function of good hearing. If you hear wrong, you will sing wrong, and you will play wrong.

👉🏾👉🏾👉🏾So, How do you develop your hearing?

✅1. Work on your relative pitch, intervals, basic scales, and do a lot of listening exercises.
You get better with practice.

✅2. Learn to calm down and patiently transcribe songs. You rush too much so you don’t get to learn anything from the songs.

✅3. Learn songs that will task your hearing.
For many singers, the only type of songs they listen to are easy songs.
That is why you learn 20 songs a month but you’re not improving.

Ear training is hard work, but the dividends are massive.
It will take your musical abilities to amazing levels.
