GOVERNOR INUWA COMMISERATES WITH FAMILY OF LATE HON. YAYA BAUCHI TONGO
..Describes His Death as a Great Loss to Constituents and Gombe State
..Says His Contributions to Grassroots Development Will Remain Indelible

The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has commiserated with the family, constituents, and associates of the late member representing Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Yaya Bauchi Tongo, describing his death as a painful loss to his constituents, Gombe State, and the nation at large.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya noted that the late lawmaker was a committed grassroots politician whose immense contributions to the development of his constituency and the welfare of his people would always be remembered.

The remains of the late Hon. Yaya Bauchi Tongo were laid to rest amid tears and prayers at his family compound in Tongo Village, Funakaye Local Government Area of Gombe State.

Among those who attended the funeral were members of the House of Representatives led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, alongside principal officers of the House, including the Chief Whip, Hon. Usman Bello Kumo, and other federal lawmakers. Also in attendance were the Senator representing Gombe North Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo; the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo, accompanied by members of the State Assembly; the Secretary to the Gombe State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi; political leaders, traditional rulers, party stakeholders, family members, and other mourners from within and outside the state.

Representing Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya at the burial ceremony, the Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Manassah Daniel Jatau,Ph.D, described the deceased as a true representative of the people and a dedicated grassroots politician who devoted his life to serving his community.

Dr. Jatau stated that the late lawmaker distinguished himself through selfless service, humanitarian interventions, empowerment programmes, and the provision of democratic dividends to his constituents.

He added that Hon. Yaya Bauchi Tongo was a silent achiever whose numerous developmental initiatives and contributions to the progress of his constituency would continue to serve as a lasting legacy for future generations.

It could be recalled that Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya had earlier issued a condolence message to the immediate family of the deceased, the people of Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, and members of the National Assembly, expressing deep sorrow over the passing of one of their esteemed colleagues.

The Governor prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, constituents, associates, and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Special prayers were offered for the repose of the soul of the late lawmaker before a large gathering of mourners who converged on Tongo Village to pay their last respects to the departed legislator.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya Mourns Rep Member, Yaya Bauchi Tongo; Describes Death as Huge Loss to Gombe, Nigeria

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the member representing Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Yaya Bauchi Tongo, who passed away today in Abuja, after a protracted illness.

In a condolence message, Governor Inuwa Yahaya described the late lawmaker as an astute grassroots politician, seasoned public servant and committed representative who dedicated his life to the service of his people and the development of the State.

The Governor said the death of Hon. Yaya Bauchi Tongo is a huge and painful loss, not only to his immediate family or constituents, but also to Gombe State and Nigeria as a whole.

According to him, the late federal lawmaker distinguished himself through impactful constituency projects, humanitarian interventions and commitment to improving the lives of the people he represented.

“Hon. Yaya Bauchi Tongo was a passionate and grassroot leader whose contributions to community development and public service earned him the respect and admiration of many. His demise is indeed a huge loss to our state and the nation,” the Governor stated.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya recalled the late lawmaker’s years of service in various capacities, noting that his legacy of humility, accessibility and commitment to constituency development would continue to be remembered.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the people of Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, members of the National Assembly, political associates and the entire people of Gombe State over the great loss.

The Governor prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, reward his good deeds with Aljannat Firdaus, and grant his family, associates and constituents the fortitude to bear the immense loss.

Party Leaders and Stakeholders,
Members of the Press, Fellow Progressives of Gombe State,

Good Afternoon.

On behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Gombe State Senatorial and House of Representatives Primary Election
Committee, I welcome you to this press briefing. We are here to formally present the official outcomes of our party's primary elections successfully conducted yesterday, Monday, May 18, 2026,
across the state.

2.0 ACCREDITATION:
In strict compliance with the directives of the National Working Committee (NWC) of our great party, this committeesuperintended a Direct Primary Election process. This format successfully democratized the exercise by moving the voting franchise directly t o our card carrying grassroots base.

The exercise across all eleven (11) Local Government Areas
(LGAs) was characterized by its remarkably peaceful, orderly, and
harmonious nature, serving as a testament to the democratic
maturity of our party faithful. Operational transparency was
strictly secured through a rigorous, standardized layout.

The committee enforced a thorough and mandatory voter accreditation window starting at 8:00 AM across designated ward levels. Voting eligibility was strictly tied to the mandatory presentation of a valid APC Party Membership Card, successfully eliminating external infiltration and protecting the sanctity of the ballot.

3.0 - DECLARATIONS:

As legally required by our party guidelines and prevailing electoral frameworks, the official declarations of results were duly and legally executed by the designated Returning Officers at the respective zonal collation centres immediately following theconclusion of collation on the field yesterday.

Total Certified Valid Votes Scored: 56,687

4. 0 CLOSING STATEMENT AND APPRECIATION

Having satisfied all necessary requirements and scored the highest number of valid votes cast in their respective districts, these winners were rightfully declared on the field immediately after collation. The Committee fully stands by these decentralized field declarations which confirm them as as the official flag bearers of the All Progressives Congress for the upcoming elections.
