PDP ACCUSES GOMBE GOVERNMENT OF POLITICAL DETENTION OF SUPPORTERS

The People's Democratic Party (PDP), Gombe State Chapter expresses serious concern over the detention of the supporter of Professor Isa Ali Pantami, the party's Governorship Candidate in the state.

We insist that the arrest and detention of Suleiman Sherah Danwawu by the security agencies in Gombe was politically motivated as a result of his public support for . This action, according to the Party, violates Danwawu's freedom of expression as guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution.

The People's Democratic Party describe the development as a direct assault on democracy and the rule of law, as no citizen should be persecuted for peacefully expressing his political opinion or supporting a candidate of his choice.

The party also criticized the ruling APC Government in Gombe over series of arrests, political intimidation, destruction of billboards and other party materials in some quarters of the state, which we viewed as democratic foul-play capable of heating up the political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

The PDP also maintains that “Freedom of Expression and association is guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution and there is no amount of intimidation, arrest or detention that can force members of our party to abandon our conviction or stop us from supporting our Gubernatorial Candidate who we believe well salvage the people of Gombe State.”

The People's Democratic Party, Gombe State is therefore calling for the immediate release of Suleiman Sherah Danwawu and also advises security agencies and the judiciary to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without undue external interference in a bid to maintain peace and order in the state.
