The Federal Government has formalized agreements for eight major road projects across Nigeria, a move the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, says has already attracted investor interestâparticularly in refunding and tolling components of Bola Ahmed Tinubuâs flagship highway initiatives. The agreements were concluded between Wednesday and Thursday at the Ministry of Works headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja.
The signed projects include four legacy highways and four additional strategic routes spread across multiple states. These developments form part of the administrationâs broader push to modernize Nigeriaâs transport infrastructure and open new corridors for economic activity.
Key among the projects is Section II of the CalabarâEbonyiâAbuja Superhighway, which cuts across Ebonyi State, Benue State, Kogi State, and Nasarawa State. Others include Section IV of the SokotoâBadagry Superhighway in Oyo State, Section V of the LagosâCalabar Coastal Highway in Akwa Ibom State, and Section II of the AkwangaâJosâBauchiâGombeâBiuâMaiduguri Road, specifically the GombeâBiu axis.
According to the Minister, these agreements signal growing investor confidence in Nigeriaâs evolving infrastructure framework and represent a significant push toward delivering the administrationâs long-term road development vision.

10 Things You Should Know About Enugu
1. Traffic Laws: Traffic laws are very strict in Enugu. You dare not park your car by the side on a major road. You dare not beat traffic lights positioned in almost all parts of the town. If you do, your vehicle will be towed to MOT office or you pay huge fines. Dem nor dey hear 'Abeg'.
2. Relaxed Attitude: The people have a relaxed attitude. They don't rush when doing things. It is common for people to sit in a town-service bus for more than 30 minutes in Enugu, waiting for passengers to fill the bus. My first year in Enugu was uncomfortable because it is something different from what I was used to in Warri. You do not see people rushing to work in the morning, even bankers. Everyone seems to do it slow slow.
3. Peacefulness: Enugu is one of the most peaceful towns in Nigeria. During my 10-year stay, I did not hear or witness any inter-communal clash or anything similar. In fact, I really did not see anyone fighting publicly, except verbal clashes (quarrelling) on few occasions.
4. The Women: Enugu has the most beautiful women in Nigeria. It is only closely followed by Owerri. Out of every 10 young women you see, 6 would be pretty, and the rest might actually look presentable. My neck and my head had a quarrel the first day I landed in Enugu. My neck said my head was stressing it too much, because of the constant turning and looking. As a man, you need to be focused or else, you will get distracted if you allow the beauty of the women to overwhelm you.
5. Enugu is an 'Oringo' Town: You must have heard the singer, Flavour called Enugu 'Oringo' in some of his songs. Oringo is a slang in southeast Nigeria which means 'party'. Enugu is a place where more money is spent than it is made. From Cubana to Toscana, from Trans-Ekulu to Abakpa, from GRA to Independence Layout, from Agbani to Obiagu, it is all about Oringo. Forget it. Enugu is the only place you can see beer parlours and bars opened from morning till night, with people drinking during working hours on weekdays. About 60% of alcohol in southeast is consumed in Enugu.
6. Okpa and Pepsi: In Enugu, they don't joke with Okpa and Pepsi. Okpa is a local food made from Bambara beans. N500 Okpa and one chilled Pepsi will go a long way for the average man on the street. Don't play.
7. Beware of Abakpa at Night: Abakpa is the largest area in Enugu town. It is owned by the Nike people of Enugu-East LGA. It is a place where you find the good, the bad, and the ugly. They are called Abakpa Ndi Nti Ike for a reason. When interpreted in English, it means the set of people that are stubborn and do not heed to advice. Abakpa is a place you can get the cheapest accommodation in Enugu if you are a beginner. It is also a place you need to be careful and mind your business. Nor dey waka waka for inside Abakpa for night, or else boys wey nor get joy go help you keep your property for you.
8. Choice Areas to Live: If you are financially buoyant, the best places to stay in Enugu with good security and road networks, beautiful environment, and magnificent buildings are Trans-Ekulu, Independence Layout, and GRA.
9. Water Issues: Enugu is a hilly place. It is good for hikers, but one issue that the town usually face is water shortage due to the topography. I hope the current governor, Barrister Peter Ndubuisi Mbah will address that soon.
10. Always Cook at Home on Sundays: If you are a bachelor or spinster, make sure you get ingredients on Saturday to cook on Sunday, else na hunger go kpai you. Enugu people don't joke with Sunday relaxation and outing. No matter the profits their business is generating, they don't sacrifice their Sundays for anything. Most shops and restaurants are closed. Even shops where the owners live in same building.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday confirmed the death of wanted Islamic State (IS) commander Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki, also known as Abu-Mainok, following a joint counterterrorism raid by Nigerian and United States forces in the Lake Chad Basin. According to the President, initial assessments showed that the operation, conducted overnight, successfully eliminated the terrorist leader along with several of his top associates during a targeted strike on his compound.
Tinubu described the operation as a major success and a powerful demonstration of the growing security collaboration between Nigeria and the United States. In a personally signed statement, he praised the professionalism of the Nigerian Armed Forces and their US counterparts, noting that the mission delivered âa heavy blowâ to the ranks of the Islamic State. He emphasized that international partnerships remain crucial in tackling the security challenges facing the region.
The President also expressed appreciation to US President Donald Trump for what he called his âleadership and unwavering supportâ in the joint mission. He commended the personnel involved in the operation for their bravery and reaffirmed Nigeriaâs commitment to sustaining decisive strikes on terrorist hideouts across the country. Tinubu stressed that the success of the mission reflects the importance of continued cooperation to safeguard regional and global security.
Reacting to the development, President Trump described the raid as a âmeticulously planned and very complex missionâ executed flawlessly by American and Nigerian forces. He identified Abu-Bilal al-Minuki as the âsecond in command of ISIS globally,â adding that the terrorist leader wrongly believed he could evade detection in Africa. Trump stated that the operation significantly weakened ISISâs global capacity, and he thanked the Nigerian government for its partnership in carrying out the mission.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja for an official three-nation tour that will take him to France, Kenya, and Rwanda. His trip was first announced in a statement signed on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. In a follow-up update on Saturday, Onanuga confirmed that the journey, earlier scheduled for Saturday, had been shifted to begin on Sunday.
According to the presidency, the visit will commence with a stop in France before President Tinubu proceeds to Nairobi, where he is expected to participate in the Africa-France Summit. The summit, co-chaired by Emmanuel Macron and William Ruto, is slated for May 11â12 and will focus on issues such as energy transition, green industrialisation, digital transformation, global financial reforms, and climate action.
The presidency noted that Tinubuâs participation underscores Nigeriaâs commitment to strengthening strategic ties with both African nations and the French Republic. The summit, themed âAfrica Forward: Africa-France Partnerships for Innovation and Growth,â will provide a forum for leaders to discuss key areas including climate resilience, economic transformation, infrastructure development, youth empowerment, technological progress, and peace-building initiatives.
Following the summit in Kenya, President Tinubu is scheduled to travel to Kigali for the annual Africa CEO Forum taking place from May 14 to 15. This yearâs forum, themed âScale or Fail,â is expected to be the continentâs largest gathering of private-sector leaders, investors, and policymakers, with discussions centred on accelerating Africaâs economic transformation through regional integration, shared scale, and expanded cross-border investments.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced that its 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions will take place on Monday, May 11, where crucial decisionsâincluding the minimum cut-off marks for the 2026/2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) cycleâwill be finalized. The announcement was made in a statement issued on Sunday by the boardâs spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin.
According to the statement, the meeting will be held at the Body of Benchers Auditorium located in the Institute and Research District, FCC Phase III, Jabi, within Abuja. The event will be attended by major education stakeholders, and key policy directions will be formally presented by the Maruf Alausa, who serves as the Minister of Education.
JAMB noted that the annual policy meeting remains a vital platform where stakeholders collectively determine the minimum acceptable UTME score, as well as broader admission guidelines for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. It also serves as an avenue to harmonize admission procedures across all tertiary institutions in the country.
The board added that the 2026/2027 admission exercise will officially commence following the meeting, emphasizing that participating institutions must strictly adhere to the agreed-upon policies. The gathering is expected to reinforce compliance and ensure that schools maintain transparency and fairness throughout their admission processes.
