On March 14th, the Blood Rescue Club, ESUT Chapter in partnership with Blood Cells Rescue Initiative and the Enugu State Blood Services Agency, successfully carried out a blood drive at Enugu State University Teaching Hospital.

Thanks to the generosity of our amazing heroes, we recorded a total of 37 voluntary non-remunerated blood donations — 37 lives potentially saved!

The Blood Rescue Club of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) successfully held its Official Inauguration Ceremony on Saturday, 13th September 2025.

The event brought together students, staff, and partners with a shared commitment to safe blood donation advocacy and lifesaving initiatives. The highlights of the inauguration included:

Networking opportunities among students and health advocates.

Registration of new members, expanding the reach of the club.

The inauguration underscored the mission of Blood Cells Rescue Initiative, to ensure that safe blood is available for all who need it, while also aligning with global goals of promoting good health, well-being, and youth-led advocacy.

The Blood Rescue Club stands as a platform for young changemakers to raise awareness, promote voluntary blood donation, and support lifesaving medical practices within and beyond the university community.

In commemoration of World Blood Donor Day, Blood Cells Rescue Initiative in partnership with Enugu Branch and took to the streets with purpose and passion, leading an awareness walk from ESUT Parklane Hospital to the National Blood Service Agency.

We were honoured to host a thought-provoking panel session featuring Prof. Tessa Nwagha, Dr. Kingsley Agu, and Dr. Onyinye Eze, who shared deep insights on the life-saving power of voluntary blood donation.

The day culminated in a successful blood drive, reminding us that every drop counts, and every donor is a hero.

Nigeria is a bears the highest burden of sickle cell disease globally and this translates to about 50 million individuals carrying the Sickle cell trait.

The depressing thing about this findings is that a vast majority of these persons are ignorant of their status and are unable to afford the basic medical management.

We all have a role to play, let's come together, let's Tell it Loud, Let's Advocate. These are little children, these are the future.
