Cross River Government Revokes Permit for Miyetti Allah Cattle Movement to Cameroon
The Cross River State Government has officially withdrawn an earlier permit granted to the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, which authorised the transportation of cattle from Ebonyi State through Cross River en route to Cameroon.
The reversal was announced in a statement released on Sunday in Calabar and signed by the Commissioner for Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries Development, Hon. Emmanuel Anom.
According to the Commissioner, the state government has carefully reviewed the circumstances surrounding the initial approval and has now determined that allowing such movement is no longer in the best interest of the state. He emphasised that the revocation fully nullifies the previously issued directive and should be regarded as final and binding.
In his words, the government is taking a proactive stance to maintain peace, security, and regulatory order within Cross River’s borders. “The Commissioner, on behalf of the Cross River State Government, hereby announces the cancellation of the movement permit earlier issued to the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders for the movement of their cattle from Ebonyi State, across Cross River State, to Cameroon,” the statement read.
He further clarified that the cancellation supersedes all earlier permissions, letters, clearances, or verbal assurances relating to the cattle movement. The state government urged all parties, especially transporters, herders, and local stakeholders, to take note of the development and comply accordingly.
Hon. Anom also highlighted the role of security agencies in enforcing the directive. He instructed all security formations operating within the state—including the police, military, immigration services, border security units, and community policing structures—to heighten surveillance and prevent any attempt to move cattle across the state under the previously granted permit.
“Security agencies are hereby directed to be vigilant and prevent any such movement through Cross River State,” the statement added.
The Commissioner reassured residents that the decision aligns with the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and economic stability while ensuring that cross-border livestock activities follow due process and established regulations.
The government also appealed to citizens to remain calm, cooperate with authorities, and report any suspicious movement of cattle or persons attempting to violate the directive. The statement concluded by reaffirming the administration’s dedication to transparency, law enforcement, and the protection of Cross River’s territorial integrity.
