He drew me out of deep waters

I struggled to breathe in the turbulent depth,
Drowning in the undertow I placed myself.
The surface receded and the darkness closed in tight,
As waves of guilt and shame crashed through the night.
I wailed because I couldn't find a hand,
To lift me from the ocean to the land.

But then, a presence swam beside me,
Mercy, with outstretched arms, came closer
She dove into the depths, and lifted me up.
Now the sun shone on me,
I came out wet, but I am free.

Psalm 18:16 – “He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters.”*

THE NIGERIA WE WANT
Let me paint a picture not of what is, but what must be.
A Nigeria where every soul breathes with dignity.
I love this land of legends and great history,
With great culture and colourful stories.
From Benue harvest to Lagos light,
Nigeria is magic when she gets it right.
We want more than survival.
We want a place where justice flow like endless river.
A country where you don't need to win with connection,
Where tribal marks are not tickets to rejection.
Where jobs meet effort, not bribery or class,
Where every child can rise, regardless of their past.
We want hospitals that heal, not delay,
Roads that don’t turn journeys into dismay.
We want police that protect, not oppress,
And leaders that serve the people with transparency.
The Nigeria we want is not a myth.
It starts with truth, with you, with me.
We must build her with sweat, not just wish,
Till justice flows and every soul is free.
This green and white is more than flag—it’s flame.
Let’s build the Nigeria that honours her name.
Know this: Nigeria needs the government, the people, you and I to grow.

WHY WE EXIST
Speaker: We come to earth and later exit. So it is, and so it will continue to be. Why are we existing?

Me:
You say we come and go,
like whispers through cracked lips of time…
Have you ever watched a movie without feeling an emotion?
Either good or bad, we are actors that cause emotion.
We are not just passengers.
We are made for purpose,
And that purpose we must fulfill before we leave.
Shakespeare says, "The world is a stage."
And we are the writers,
Do not leave the stage with incomplete script.
We exist...
not just to leave,
but to leave something behind —
a footprint, a word, a fire.
We exist because meaning must wear skin
And walk for a while.

ODES TO THE GREAT BENIN PEOPLE

Before the world called us black,
We were bronze, shining in royal grace.
We were complete, nothing we lack.
Fly with me now, through poetic space,
To a land where legends never die,
Where every stone tells a tale,
And bronze plaques are tongues of ancestors,
Still speaking, still loud, still real.
We built walls without cement, but with resolve,
No empire walked through without bowing first.
We lived in a Utopia, before they came,
Thieves of time, looters of sacred flame.
Not all white‑looking birds are eagles,
Ask the ones who plundered our treasures.
But the bronze whispered till the world listened.
We, the children of the soil, rise again.
Not just children of history, we are history itself.
So when you speak of kingdoms…
Whisper Benin with respect.

THE STAGE WITHOUT A SCRIPT

Shakespeare says, "The world is a stage..."
But who gave me this play that has no page?
We are the playwright of our play.
God has given us the light for the way.
"Action!" Our feet stand on the theater,
Ready to perform, use all strength to do better.
The judge is sitting at the auditorium top.
Millions of mouths jazz for the artist of pop.
Their echoes can trick a lofty heart to fail.
But the dressed player will not be the tail.

***************************

Inspired by Shakespeare’s iconic line — “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players” — this poem explores the tension between divine purpose and personal responsibility.

We are not just actors in life’s drama; we are the playwrights of our own story. With God as the light and judge, and the world as our audience, this piece challenges us to step boldly into our role, write our script with intention, and perform with courage.

A poetic call to action for anyone who feels lost in the noise — reminding us that the stage is ours, and the script must be written before the curtain falls.

HISTORY RECLAIMED SERIES: THE ANCIENT INK

In the new world of books,
Where the hungry mind's meal is cook.
Laid an ancient artifacts,
Golden treasure that the unborn yearn to behold.
This treasure caught by busy sight,
Which hungers for the root of rare gem.
My legs drove me here like a fast bike
It covers 5 meters in a second,
Just to glimpse this diamond.
A mountain of books.
An ocean of map, a guide to today's writers.
Their quills had dried up long ago,
Yet their words still drip ink on our tongues.
Scroll of Aristotle and Shakespeare won war.
The war is time that makes things lost.
Music is a trend, and trend is a stranger.
But your ink is like the earth that never stop.
Your ink shine as though made now.
I use your ink in writing this scroll.
Ink men of today still drip your ink on scroll.
Why our ink still shine if time tests the scroll?

August 20 — The Day Facebook Struck

I picked up my phone today with a flicker of hope. Maybe—just maybe—my suspended accounts had been restored. I tapped the screen, heart thudding, eyes scanning.

But what I saw chilled me.

All five accounts. Blocked.

Gone. Just like that.

I had feared this moment. Deep down, I knew it was coming. But knowing doesn’t soften the blow. Five accounts on one device—what was I using them for? Honestly, I can’t even say. But Heaven is my witness: it was never for scam. Never for deceit.

Facebook called it a violation of their community guidelines.
I call it a loss of my digital legacy.

My posts. My poems. My memories.
Erased.

It hurts.
But I will not break.

I refuse to sink like a stone in the sea.
I rise—lighter, wiser, and still smiling.

This journal is my reminder.
A scar that speaks.
A lesson etched in pixels and pain.

Lesson learned:
Obey the community guidelines of any platform.
Don’t let nonchalance cost you your voice.

With strength and clarity,

VICTORY OVER SELF

Conquer your flesh, the war within,
The greatest fight before you win.
If you can tame your heart’s desire,
The devil’s bait will lose its fire.

Don’t let him use your weakest part,
To pierce your soul and break your heart.
He’s cunning, smooth, with words so sweet,
He strikes the place where pain repeats.

He knows your flaws before you do,
And aims until he breaks you through.
But do not yield to what he throws,
Let Jesus guide the path you chose.

Learn from the One who overcame,
Who bore the cross and took the shame.
Adeboye once clearly said,
“Victory starts inside your head.”

If you subdue your fleshly cry,
You’ll rise above and touch the sky.
Through prayer, truth, and humble grace,
You’ll surely win the heaven’s race.

INSPIRATION: “The first and biggest victory of all is victory over your own self.” — Pastor E.A. Adeboye
