NOTE NAMES Lesson by :
09/11/2024
American and British music terms use different names for the same note lengths:
Whole Note (American) = Semibreve (British): lasts 4 beats
Half Note = Minim: lasts 2 beats
Quarter Note = Crotchet: lasts 1 beat
Eighth Note = Quaver: lasts 1/2 beat
Sixteenth Note = Semiquaver: lasts 1/4 beat
Itโs just different names for the same durations! Both systems follow the same rhythm and timing.

๐ผ The Close Score ๐ต
What is a score?
In music, a score is the written form of a musical composition showing all instrumental and vocal parts.
There are two types of scores: open and close. Close score is when two or more instrumental or voice parts are on a staff. It is a reduction of a piece for many instruments or voices to just a few staves, so multiple parts are on one staff.
In a close vocal score, soprano and alto may appear on the treble staff while tenor and bass appear on the bass staff. Four parts are on just two staffs.
What is the difference the treble and bass staffs?
The difference between the treble and bass staffs is the clef. Treble staff has a treble clef while the bass staff has the bass clef. It is the clef that determines the lines and spaces (pitches) of a staff.
