NUC approves 33 new universities, bringing total to 309

The national universities commission (NUC) approved 33 new universities across the country in 2025, bringing the total number to 309.

Data obtained from the NUC website shows that 20 new private universities were granted operating licences by the commission last year, while the federal government established seven new institutions and state governments accounted for the remaining six.

The new federal universities are located in Rivers, Kaduna, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Oyo, and Zamfara states. Niger, Benue, Cross River, and Imo states each established one new university, while Ebonyi established two.

JAMB has not changed its policy on undergraduate studies.

Running two undergraduate programs at the same time has always been an offence. Nothing new. No loopholes.

As an undergraduate, you are allowed to register for another UTME, sit for it, and even secure admission.

However, the moment you decide to accept the new admission, you must officially withdraw from your current undergraduate program.

JAMB is not against writing UTME again as an undergraduate.

What JAMB strictly prohibits is simultaneous undergraduate studies.

Simple. Clear. No confusion.

*UTME registration will commence tomorrow, Monday, January 26, and run until February 28, as JAMB has screened 924 CBT centres nationwide for the 2026 UTME, with final tests to be conducted before full accreditation to ensure a smooth and credible examination.*

*E-PIN sales began on January 19. Only candidates with e-PIN can register.*

*Direct Entry registration starts March 2.*

- You can choose from Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, NDA, or Nigeria Police Academy.

- English is compulsory.
