How does Ayra Starr win the Best International Act, yet Wizkid wins Best African Act at the same MOBO Awards?
So what are we really saying? That Africa is separate from the world? Or that some artists have outgrown the African Category?
At this point, Afro beat artists are competing globally, filling arenas, topping charts...yet we still box them into "African Act".
No disrespect to Wizkid - legend status confirmed.
But if Ayra Starr is International, then what exactly is Wizkid?
Maybe it's time we stop thinking small. Afro beat is global. Period.🌎🔥

DAY 2: THE FIRST RAPPERS & MCs.
Before rap became global, it started from the streets and block parties in the Bronx.
The first person to spark the movement was DJ Kool Herc. In the early 1970s, he hosted parties where he extended the break of funks records - the part people loved to dance to.
But guess what?
The DJ wasn't the only star.
Coke La Rock is widely recognized as one of the very first MCs. At parties, he would grab the mic to hype the crowd, shout out names, and keep the energy alive.
Soon after, names like Grandmaster Caz and Melle Mel helped shape MCing into lyrical performance - not just hype talk but rhythm, rhyme and storytelling.
Rap didn't start in big studios, it started from the streets, from expressions, from voice.
From hype... to poetry.
From party talk...to powerful messages.
Tomorrow - How rap moved from the Bronx to the world.🌎🔥. Stay tuned.

DAY 1: THE ORIGIN OF RAP - WHERE IT ALL BEGAN.
Most people enjoy rap today, but not everyone knows where it truly began.
Rap music started in the 1970s in Bronx, New York City - not in big studios, not on TV, not on streaming platforms - but in the streets.
One of the key pioneers was DJ Kool Herc. He would play funk and soul records at block parties. Instead of playing the full song normally, he began isolating and repeating the break section - the part where the beat drops and the instruments hit harder.
People loved it.
While the DJ controlled the turntable, another person would grab the microphone to hype the crowd. That's how MC (Master of Ceremony) was born. Over time, those hype phrases turned to rhythmic talking and rhythmic talking into rap.
Rap was never just music. It was;
* A voice for the poor.
* A sound for the unheard.
* A response to struggle.
* A culture born from survival.
The young people of Bronx didn't have luxury. They didn't have opportunities. But they had creativity. They turned pain into poetry and streets into stages.
Rap started as expressions before it became entertainment.
As a rapper myself, this is something I reflect on deeply. Rap is not just about rhyming words or chasing trends. It started as a movement - a way for people to speak their truth when nobody was listening.
Before the fame.... Before the chains.... Before the awards...
There was just a beat and a voice. And that voice changed the world.
🔥 Question for you: Do you think rap today still carries that original spirit of truth and storytelling?
