A Call for Peace and Justice in Ebonyi State
It is painful that as Nigerians we strongly condemn the killings carried out by bandits and terrorists in the northern part of the country, where innocent Christians and Muslims are losing their lives. We raise our voices against insecurity and plead for peace across Nigeria. Yet, sadly, in our own region in the East, people are still living in fear because we are destroying ourselves.
In Ebonyi State, where we do not have bandits or terrorists, our greatest threat has become the hatred and violence among ourselves. Brothers are turning against brothers. Communities that should live together in peace are now divided by anger, suspicion, and bloodshed.
My own community, Ishinkwo, is a clear example. It is heartbreaking that misunderstandings, disagreements, or struggles over expectations and interests have led to the killing of fellow human beings.
! No disagreement should ever be strong enough to justify the shedding of a brother’s blood. Violence can never bring justice or peace.
Life is sacred, and every soul lost leaves behind families, pain, and wounds that may take generations to heal. If we truly desire development, unity, and progress in Ebonyi State, we must first choose peace over hatred.
I humbly appeal to the government of Ebonyi State, under the leadership of His Excellency RT hon Francis nwifuru, to ensure that proper investigations are carried out concerning the killings and violence affecting our communities. The killing of our traditional ruler,Late HRM Eze josephat A ikegwu is trembling and our people feel insecured, how can we be afraid in our community?
The government gave us security to protect us, what are they doing?
We need immediate action from the government of ebonyi
Those responsible must be brought to justice so that the rule of law will prevail and confidence can be restored among the people.
Justice is the foundation of peace. When justice is done, healing can begin, and communities can rebuild trust again.
Let us remember that we are one people. No land, no disagreement, and no political interest is worth the blood of our brothers and sisters.
May peace return to Ishinkwo, to Ebonyi State, and to Nigeria as a whole.
Rip my king

The pain of the people of Ishinkwo has become too heavy to keep silent about.
For a long time now, the people of Ishinkwo have been crying out to the public and to the government over the land demarcation issue between our community and our neighboring community, Abaomege. We have written letters, made appeals, and raised our voices many times, yet our cries have been ignored.
Since 2025, twenty-three of our young men were arrested, and we have repeatedly pleaded with the authorities for their release. Sadly, no attention has been given to our pleas. Our people continue to live in fear, feeling abandoned by the same government that is supposed to protect us.
We have complained about intimidation, fear, and injustice, but the whole society has remained silent. Even many media aides and voices in Ebonyi State chose not to speak about our suffering.
But yesterday, when our traditional ruler was tragically killed in his own home after 11 p.m., suddenly everyone began to speak. Many bloggers and public commentators started posting about his death.
This brings us to a painful question:
Why does the government and the society only show concern when a life has already been taken? Why must tragedy happen before our voices are heard? Are the cries of Ishinkwo people not important enough until blood is shed?
Is it because we are from Ishinkwo, a community that many believe has no one to speak for them?
Our king was assassinated in his own house late at night. Up until now, there has been no clear sign of justice, no strong reassurance to the people who are already living in fear.
If a traditional ruler cannot feel safe in his own home, what then is the hope of the common man?
The people of Ishinkwo are not asking for special treatment. We are only asking for justice, safety, and fairness. We are asking the government, the media, and the entire public to hear our cries before more innocent lives are lost.
Let the voice of Ishinkwo be heard. Let justice speak before silence takes more lives.

PUBLIC NOTICE
This is to remind the general public that the people of Ishinkwo community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have continued to cry out over the maltreatment and injustice we are experiencing from our state government through the influence of our Local Government Chairman Hon Hon Ogboffia Ikechukwu.
For a long time, Ishinkwo has been in crisis with our neighbouring community, Abaomege. When Francis Nwifuru became the Governor of Ebonyi State, we believed that justice and a lasting solution would finally come. The government earlier directed that the demarcation of the disputed land between Ishinkwo and Abaomege should be carried out using the official White Paper. Unfortunately, the Local Government Chairman has ignored this directive and instead introduced his own methods, which we believe are biased and unfair.
Since the crisis began, the people of Abaomege disconnected Ishinkwo from electricity, yet no meaningful action has been taken by the Chairman to address this hardship. Even more troubling is that some of our young men were arrested about one year and three months ago without just cause, and they are still being kept in detention.
It is painful that the government often waits until there is bloodshed before showing concern. We are raising our voices now to prevent further crisis and suffering in our community.
We therefore appeal to the general public, human rights organizations, and well-meaning Nigerians to hear our cry and help call the attention of the government to this injustice. Our youths are suffering in detention, and our community continues to live under hardship and fear.
Justice, fairness, and peace are what we seek.

OPEN NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OF NIGERIA
The Plight of the People of Ishinkwo Community in Onicha Local Government Area Ebonyi state:
It has become necessary to bring to the attention of the general public, relevant authorities, and the international community the difficult and painful situation currently faced by the people of Ishinkwo community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Nigeria.
For many years, the people of Ishinkwo and our neighboring community, Abaomege, have had a lingering land dispute. Due to the inability of past authorities to conclusively resolve and properly demarcate the disputed land, the conflict has unfortunately led to repeated crises, including loss of lives and destruction of property. This situation has caused deep pain and instability between two communities that should otherwise live as neighbors in peace.
Recently, since 2023 the government of Ebonyi State began making efforts to finally resolve this long-standing dispute. The state government reportedly conducted investigations, reviewed existing land maps, and produced an official White Paper intended to guide the proper demarcation of the disputed land so that both communities can enjoy lasting peace.
However, it is with great concern that we bring to public notice that the implementation of this process has allegedly been undermined by the Chairman of Onicha Local Government Area, who is from the Abaomege community. Instead of following the state government's approved White Paper and directives, the chairman is believed to have abandoned the government document and begun implementing his own directives regarding the land demarcation.
This development has created serious disagreement and tension with the people of Ishinkwo, who believe the official government resolution is being ignored.
Over time, the people of Ishinkwo have written several letters and appeals to the Ebonyi State Government seeking fairness and intervention. Unfortunately, there has been little or no response. It is widely believed within our community that the local government chairman has portrayed the people of Ishinkwo negatively before the state authorities simply because we oppose what we consider to be an unfair process.
Furthermore, since 2025, about twenty-three (23) young men from Ishinkwo have reportedly been arrested following protests against what they describe as the forceful taking of Ishinkwo land. Despite several appeals from families and community leaders, these young men have not been released.
The impact of this crisis has also affected our social development. Our community secondary school, which served both Ishinkwo and many students from Abaomege some of whom successfully obtained their WAEC certificates from the school was destroyed during the conflict. Sadly, no effort has been made by the local government authorities to rebuild this school, even though other projects such as schools, markets, and village roads have been constructed in Abaomege.
Additionally, the people of Ishinkwo have been cut off from electricity since the crisis began because the power supply is connected through Abaomege. This has placed our community under severe hardship and isolation.
Many members of the Ishinkwo community believe that part of the reason for this continued neglect and maltreatment is the lack of strong political representation for our people within the government structure.
Therefore, we respectfully call on:
- The Ebonyi State Government
- The Federal Government of Nigeria
- Human rights organizations
- Civil society groups
- Traditional and community leaders
- The Nigerian public and international observers
to urgently look into the situation of Ishinkwo community and ensure that justice, fairness, and peace prevail.
We also humbly request the release of the 23 detained youths, the restoration of basic amenities such as electricity, and the proper implementation of the state government's White Paper on the land demarcation so that both Ishinkwo and Abaomege communities can finally live together in lasting peace.
We appeal for intervention similar to the attention given by national leaders during the crisis between Amasiri and Edda communities, which helped bring the issue to national awareness.
The people of Ishinkwo are peace-loving citizens who only seek justice, fairness, and the opportunity to live safely on their ancestral land.
