This machine has been used to rammer (compact) residential (and even commercial) building foundation backfill for ages. But does it really make any difference? Does it really serve the purpose?

To be honest, I don't think it serves the purpose one bit! And here's my reason.

Technically, compaction is supposed to be done in stages and the essence is to close the voids in the fill as much as possible. And to achieve maximum compaction which is the goal, it has to be done in stages with the right compaction efforts and moisture content. But what we have done for a very long time is, completely fill up the foundation, add some water, and then bring this machine to rammer.

I can tell you, the impact of this machine on the fill is infinitesimal and the highest it does in my opinion is to level the top of the fill so other materials like polythene leather and hardcore can be laid.

Is it lack of funds?
Lack of patience to do it the right way?
Or lack of options?
Any other reasons?
