From the gunboats of the Oil Rivers era to the many military incursions that followed, the Niger Delta’s history has often been shaped by the presence of force over dialogue. What began as colonial gunboat diplomacy became a recurring pattern of power, control, and resistance. Understanding this history is essential to building a future rooted in justice, development, and respect for the people of the Delta.

‘DEVE’ needs to stop! Beyond stopping it, we must also demand clarity on whether there is a concrete plan to completely eradicate this menace so it doesn’t resurface in the future.
And just as importantly, what measures are in place to engage the individuals involved in these acts, to ensure they are redirected towards purposeful, lawful means of livelihood?
