Oborevwori Woos Investors, Highlights Delta’s Blue Economy Potential At Abuja Summit
Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to unlocking the vast economic potential of the blue economy, declaring the state open and ready for strategic investments and partnerships.
The governor made this known at the Blue Economy Investment Summit 2026 themed “Shifting Gears: Heading to a New Frontier in Maritime Economy,” held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre on Thursday.
Represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Governor Oborevwori noted that the blue economy has become a top policy priority globally, as nations strive to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability and social inclusion.
He commended the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for establishing the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, describing it as a bold step towards harnessing Nigeria’s maritime resources for job creation and economic growth.
He said Delta State has already developed a comprehensive roadmap to drive its blue economy agenda, leveraging its strategic location in the Niger Delta with a coastline stretching approximately 163 kilometres.
The governor highlighted the state’s rich ecological assets, including mangrove forests, wetlands, and major rivers such as the Niger, Benin, and Escravos, which empty into the Atlantic Ocean.
According to him, 14 out of the state’s 25 local government areas are directly linked to the blue economy due to their proximity to waterways, presenting enormous opportunities in sectors such as aquaculture, marine transport, offshore energy, tourism, and logistics.
Oborevwori disclosed that the state government has established two key committees, the Blue Economy Steering Committee and the Technical Working Committee, to coordinate policies and drive implementation.
He explained that the initiative aims to create a unified platform for investors, streamline policies, and promote sustainable resource management.
“We are ready to welcome investors and partners. Delta State is safe for investment, and we are committed to providing the necessary institutional support and conducive business environment,” he said.
The governor also revealed that the state is seeking investments in critical areas including marine tourism infrastructure, port development, renewable energy, fisheries, real estate, and environmental services.
He noted that existing ports such as Burutu and Warri require infrastructure upgrades and private sector participation to operate at optimal capacity.
On human capital development, he said the state plans to collaborate with the Nigerian Maritime University and other institutions to build capacity and drive innovation in the sector.
He further emphasized the importance of maritime security, noting that Delta State would continue to partner with the Nigerian Navy and other agencies to safeguard waterways and investments.
In his remarks, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, described the global blue economy as a multi-trillion-dollar sector critical to trade, employment, and innovation.
He said Nigeria is strategically positioned to benefit, given that over 90 percent of its international trade is conducted through maritime channels.
Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of Maritime Innovation Hub, Ronke Kosoko, traced her journey into the maritime sector to her undergraduate days at the University of Lagos.
She explained that her early efforts to connect students with industry professionals and her exposure to maritime-focused discussions played a pivotal role in shaping her career.

Don't Allow Division Define Us, Oborevwori Tells Politicians At Nwaoboshi’s Funeral
Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday urged political leaders to remain united and rise above bitterness and rivalry, maintaining that Nigeria’s advancement depends on cooperation, mutual respect, and collective responsibility.
Speaking at the Funeral Mass of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi held at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Ibusa, Governor Oborevwori, said the life and passing of Senator Nwaoboshi should remind leaders at all levels that public office is a sacred trust, entrusted by God and the people for the common good of the nation.
Eminent Nigerians from across political, ethnic and religious divides gathered at Ibusa to honour the late Senator Peter Nwaoboshi.
He said: “Power is transient. Positions are temporary. But the legacy of service endures. Let us learn from this solemn moment. Let us govern with humility. Let us engage one another with respect. Let us remember that history will judge us not by titles held, but by lives touched".
He called for peace and purposeful collaboration, noting that national development can only thrive in an atmosphere of unity.
“When we are united, there is strength. When we cooperate, there is progress. But when we allow division to define us, we weaken the moral foundation upon which we stand. Nigeria must always come first,” he emphasized.
Governor Oborevwori reassured Deltans that his administration remains committed to inclusive development, responsible governance, and policies that uplift the people.
“To the children and family of our departed brother, let his name remain your badge of honour. Let his legacy inspire excellence, integrity, and patriotism. His service to Delta State and Nigeria will not be forgotten,” he added.
Oborevwori said life and death remain in the hands of Almighty God, adding that true greatness is measured not by the length of years, but by the depth of impact. “What matters most is not how long we live, but how well we serve humanity and our nation,” he said.
Continuing, he said: “We are gathered in this sacred sanctuary not only to mourn a distinguished son of Delta State, but to reflect deeply on the kind of nation we are building.
“The life of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi challenges us to place service above self, unity above division, and country above personal ambition.”
Citing John 11:25 — “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he may die, yet shall he live”, the Governor emphasized the Christian hope of eternal life, noting that Nigerians must draw strength from faith even in moments of national reflection.
“We do not grieve as those without hope. We commend our brother to the Almighty, trusting in His promise of resurrection and everlasting peace. But as we pray for him, we must also renew our commitment to the ideals he stood for, courage, representation, and dedication to his people", he said.
Describing Senator Nwaoboshi as a bridge-builder and patriot, Oborevwori said his contributions transcended political affiliations and strengthened democratic governance in Nigeria.
“He was not just a political figure; he was a servant of the people and a firm believer in Nigeria’s unity and progress. Indeed, the memory of the righteous is a blessing,” the Governor stated.
In his homily, the Vicar-General of the Catholic Diocese of Issele-Uku, Very Rev. Fr. Peter Mobuogwu, preached on hope, accountability, and divine justice. Drawing from the experience of the Israelites in exile, he reminded the faithful that God remains present even in seasons of uncertainty.
Quoting the Book of Wisdom, he affirmed: “The souls of the righteous are in the hands of God.”
“Time is not in our hands; it is in God’s hands. Let us live and serve in such a way that we may hear, ‘Welcome, good and faithful servant,” he said.
The Funeral Mass drew a distinguished gathering of national figures, underscoring the enduring influence of the late Senator. Among those present were the Governor’s wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori; Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme; former Senate President Senator Ahmad Lawan; former Governors James Ibori and Ifeanyi Okowa; former Deputy Senate President Senator Ovie Omo-Agege; former Deputy Governor Deacon Kingsley Otuaro; and numerous federal and state lawmakers.

Jubilation As Oborevwori Inaugurates Model Technical College, Omadino
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has described technical and vocational education as one of the most effective tools for tackling youth unemployment in the country, noting that graduates would emerge as skilled professionals, entrepreneurs and employers of labour rather than job seekers.
Governor Oborevwori made the remark on Monday during the inauguration of the newly completed Model Technical College, Omadino, Warri South Local Government Area of the state, describing the institution as a flagship investment in technical and vocational education by his administration.
He said some achievements were better appreciated when seen rather than spoken about, stressing that within two years, his administration had delivered landmark projects without borrowing or imposing additional burdens on the people of Delta State.
“Even I am often amazed at how much we have been able to achieve within two years without borrowing and without burdening the people. This project we are commissioning today is a clear example of prudent management. Contractors were paid promptly, and that is why delivery was timely,” the governor said.
Oborevwori disclosed that the college commenced academic activities before its formal commissioning, a development he said demonstrated the readiness and full functionality of the facility.
According to him, the institution represents another major milestone in the advancement of technical and vocational education in Delta State.
He said the Model Technical College, Omadino, reflected clarity of vision, strategic planning and disciplined ex*****on, pointing to its internal road network, administrative blocks, classrooms, workshops and laboratories as clear evidence of the administration’s commitment to quality education.
The governor commended his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for initiating the project, adding that his administration ensured its completion to the required standard.
He said: “Today, I am pleased to see a beautiful and solid edifice standing proudly. We give God all the glory. Any student, lecturer or staff member would be proud to be associated with this institution".
He also praised the quality of training being imparted at the college, citing the confidence, articulation and composure displayed by a student who spoke earlier at the event as evidence of effective teaching and learning.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized that modern educational infrastructure played a critical role in fostering a conducive learning environment, improving student performance, enhancing teacher effectiveness and instilling pride within the school community.
“With the high-quality facilities provided here, I am confident that students of this college can compete with the best anywhere in the world. All workshops and laboratories are fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities,” he added.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to education in line with the MORE Agenda, the governor assured Deltans that government would continue to upgrade educational infrastructure across the state to ensure access to complete, functional education and globally relevant skills.
He, however, appealed to the management, staff, students and host communities to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities, stressing that government property represents taxpayers’ commonwealth and must be protected from vandalism and neglect.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Technical Education, Mr. Smart Ufoh, described the Omadino Model Technical College as far more than a modern technical school, calling it a bold statement of purpose and a symbol of transformation.
Facilities within the institution include 12 classrooms and nine fully equipped workshops to enhance learning and skills acquisition. Residential and welfare infrastructure comprises two hostel blocks, staff quarters, a principal’s lodge and a corps members’ lodge, ensuring a conducive environment for both students and staff.
The complex also features a dining hall, clinic and a spacious school hall, alongside recreational facilities including a football pitch and basketball court. Complementing these are essential support structures such as a generator house and operational quarters, underscoring the institution’s readiness for effective teaching, learning and administration.
Ufoh disclosed that academic activities commenced in September 2025 with the admission of Junior Technical One students to ensure that the sophisticated facilities did not lie idle or fall into disrepair, adding that the response from Omadino community and beyond was overwhelming.
In his remarks, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Hon. Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for his impactful leadership and numerous development projects in Warri and across Delta State.
He described the commissioning of the Model Technical College as a landmark achievement, alongside major infrastructure such as the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges, extensive road networks, drainage systems that have addressed perennial flooding and the near-completed Warri Modern Stadium.
Agbateyiniro praised the governor’s fairness, inclusiveness and people-centred governance, noting that in less than three years, development projects had reached every senatorial district, Federal Constituency, local government and community in the state.
He said the people of Warri South were firmly behind the governor and confident in his leadership ahead of 2027.
Also speaking, the Olu of Warri, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III, thanked Governor Oborevwori for his commitment to the development of riverine communities and urged him to sustain and expand investments in schools, bridges, roads and jetties across riverine areas of the state.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Miss Courtney Omotoyine described the commissioning as the fulfillment of a long-held dream and a major step toward securing the future of young people in Delta State and Nigeria, urging students to utilize the facilities responsibly and strive for excellence.
Dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbegbaku; Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere; and Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeze Somtochukwu, among others.

Oborevwori Flags Off N59.7bn Agbor/Uromi Junction Flyover
..Assures Deltans Of Even Devt, Safer Roads
Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, on Monday, flagged off the construction of the N59.7 billion Agbor/Uromi Junction Flyover in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area.
At the epochal event of groundbreaking for the project, he described the project as a critical intervention aimed at improving road safety, preserving lives, and boosting economic activities across the state and beyond.
Governor Oborevwori said the flyover was conceived out of the urgent need to address persistent traffic congestion and frequent accidents at the busy Agbor/Uromi Junction, which, he noted, had, over the years, claimed lives and destroyed property.
According to him, the dangerous intersection among vehicles, motorcycles, and pedestrians on the federal highway, coupled with poor traffic management, made a lasting solution inevitable.
He disclosed that the contract for the design and construction of the flyover had been awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, with a completion timeline of 14 months.
The project, he explained, includes a 1.3-kilometre flyover bridge along the Uromi–Agbor Highway, dual carriageways with two lanes in each direction, ramps, roundabouts, concrete drainage systems, kerbs, and solar-powered streetlights to enhance safety and sustainability.
Governor Oborevwori, who was accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, and other top government functionaries for the groundbreaking ceremony, stressed the strategic importance of the corridor, describing it as a major economic and transportation link connecting the the Eastern and Western parts of the Niger Delta, while also serving as a gateway to the North.
“Anyone travelling from Lagos to the East or from the East to the West must pass through this route. Its importance to the national economy cannot be overstated,” he said.
He noted that upon completion, the flyover would significantly enhance mobility, reduce travel time, expand economic opportunities, and safeguard the lives of thousands of Nigerians who ply the route daily.
The governor also highlighted the employment opportunities the project would generate for engineers, artisans, labourers, transporters, food vendors, and others across the construction value chain.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive and balanced development, Oborevwori said the state government had injected N100 billion as a special intervention fund, allocating N4 billion each to the 25 local government areas for infrastructure development, in addition to other sectoral investments.
He added that Ika South Local Government Area was also benefiting from other major projects, including the N15.4 billion contract awarded for 13.3 kilometres of concrete drainage systems and five kilometres of road construction to address flooding and erosion, as well as the planned N12 billion 15-kilometre Okpe–Abavo–Ekuku-Agbor Road.
“As a government, we award contracts strictly on merit and competence. Excellence will always attract further patronage,” the governor assured, expressing confidence that the flyover would be completed within schedule.
Earlier, immediate past Governor of the state Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, described the Agbor/ Uromi Junction Flyover as a monumental and impactful project, commending Governor Oborevwori for sustaining continuity and translating plans into tangible development.
He said the scale and spread of infrastructure projects across the state under the current administration reflected purposeful and people-oriented governance.
Okowa also used the occasion to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the ongoing economic reforms, though initially challenging, were deliberately steering Nigeria toward a more sustainable future.
The Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, described Governor Oborevwori as an audacious and workaholic leader, reminding the Ika Nation of the many infrastructure projects executed by the administration in the area and sued for continued support for the governor in the years ahead.
Mr Frederich Weiser who spoke on behalf of the management and Board of Directors of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, expressed appreciation to the Delta State Government for the confidence reposed in it through the award of the project.
The firm pledged to deliver the flyover to the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency, and to complete it on schedule with minimal disruption, drawing on its experience with similar projects across the state, including the Ughelli Flyover.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Chiedu Ebie, assured of the commission’s readiness to collaborate with the Delta State Government to complete the Abraka–Obiaruku–Abavo–Agbor Road, describing it as a vital feeder route to the new flyover.
Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, described the flyover as a “project of destiny,” and thanked Governor Oborevwori for what he called action-driven leadership, including the restoration of electricity to communities that had been without power for over 14 years.
Other speakers, including the member representing Ika Federal Constituency, Hon. Victor Nwokolo; APC National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Felix Morka; the Dein of Agbor Kingdom, HRM Benjamin Ikechukwu, Keagborekuzi I, and President-General of Agbor Community Union, Prof. Onyemaechi Ugboh, commended Governor Oborevwori for his massive infrastructure drive and assured him of their unwavering support.
