materials, their proportions, the method of preparation
workmanship and ex*****on of work.

NEED FOR ESTIMATION AND COSTING
1. Estimate give an idea of the cost of the work and hence its
feasibility can be determined i..e whether the project could be
taken up with in the funds available or not.
2. Estimate gives an idea of time required for the completion of the work.
3. Estimate is required to invite the tenders and Quotations and to
arange contract.
4. Estimate is also required to control the expenditure during the
ex*****on of work.
5. Estimate decides whether the proposed plan matches the funds
available or not.

In construction especially if your role is supervisory, it is very important that you have basic knowledge of almost all the various trades in building construction.

For example, how can you supervise an iron bender if you do not have at least the elementary knowledge in iron bending, if you can not read a structural design document to ascertain design parameters etc. it will be very difficult for you to convey the design instructions on paper to the man doing the actual work.

It is the same with the plumber, the electrician, the mason man and other trades involved in the building production process. Because at some point, there will be need for you to practice what you preach.

Therefore do not think that supervising artisans is all about coming to site, putting your hand in your pocket and be walking about like a Boss before you know it, they will be working but you wont be able to detect those important technical errors that have been committed which may likely have an impact in structural integrity of the building.
