_*FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B*_

_*FIRST READING*_
_“My son Absalom, would that I had died instead of you.”_
_*2ND SAMUEL 18: 9 - 10, 14b, 24 - 25a, 30 - 19: 3*_

In those days: Absalom chanced to meet the servants of David. Absalom was riding upon his mule, and the mule went under the thick branches of a great oak, and his head caught fast in the oak, and he was left hanging between heaven and earth, while the mule that was under him went on. And a certain man saw it, and told Joab, “Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak.” And Joab took three darts in his hand, and thrust them into the heart of Absalom. Now David was sitting between the two gates; and the watchman went up to the roof of the gate by the wall, and when he lifted up his eyes and looked, he saw a man running alone. And the watchman called out and told the king. And the king said, “If he is alone, there are tidings in his mouth.” And the king said, “Turn aside, and stand here.” So he turned aside, and stood still. And behold, the Cush*te came; and the Cush*te said, “Good tidings for my lord the king! For the Lord has delivered you this day from the power of all who rose up against you.” The king said to the Cush*te, “Is it well with the young man Absalom?” And the Cush*te answered, “May the enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise up against you for evil, be like that young man.” And the king was deeply moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept; and as he wept, he said, “O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son, my son!” It was told Joab, “Behold, the king is weeping and mourning for Absalom.” So the victory that day was turned into mourning for all the people; for the people heard that day, “The king is grieving for his son.” And the people stole into the city that day as people steal in who are ashamed when they flee in battle.

_*RESPONSORIAL PSALM*_
_Psalm 86: 1 - 2, 3 - 4, 5 - 6 (R.) 1a_

_*R/. Turn your ear, O Lord, and answer me.*_

Turn your ear, O Lord, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.
Preserve my soul, for I am faithful;
save the servant who trusts in you, my God. *R/.*

Have mercy on me, O Lord,
for I cry to you all the day long.
Gladden the soul of your servant,
for I lift up my soul to you, O Lord. *R/.*

O Lord, you are good and forgiving,
full of mercy to all who call to you.
Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer,
and attend to my voice in supplication. *R/.*

_*GOSPEL ACCLAMATION*_
Matthew 8: 17

Alleluia.
_Christ took our infirmities and bore our diseases._
Alleluia.

_*GOSPEL*_
_“Little girl, I say to you, arise.”_
_*MARK 5: 21 - 43*_

At that time: When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered about him; and he was beside the sea. Then came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and seeing him, he fell at his feet, and begged him, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well, and live.” And he went with him. And a great crowd followed him and thronged about him. And there was a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard the reports about Jesus, and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I shall be made well.” And immediately the haemorrhage ceased; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone forth from him, immediately turned about in the crowd, and said, “Who touched my garments?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?”’ And he looked around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had been done to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.” While he was still speaking, there came from the ruler’s house some who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” But ignoring what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.” And he allowed no one to follow him except Peter and James and John the brother of James. When they came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, he saw a tumult, and people weeping and wailing loudly. And when he had entered, he said to them,-“Why do you make a tumult and weep? The child is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. But he put them all outside, and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with him, and went in where the child was. Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Talitha cumi”; which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” And immediately the girl got up and walked; for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were overcome with amazement. And he strictly charged them that no one should know this, and told them to give her something to eat.

_*THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B*_

_*FIRST READING*_
_“You shall be the shepherd of my people Israel.”_
_*2ND SAMUEL 5: 1 - 7, 10*_

In those days: All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron, and said, “Behold, we are your bone and flesh. In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you that led out and brought in Israel; and the Lord said to you, ‘You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince over Israel. ”’ So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron; and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel. David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. At Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months; and at Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years. And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who said to David, “You will not come in here, but the blind and the lame will ward you off’ — thinking, “David cannot come in here.” Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David. And David became greater and greater, for the Lord, the God of hosts, was with him.

_*RESPONSORIAL PSALM*_
_Psalm 59: 20, 21 - 22, 25 - 26 (R.) 25a_

_*R/. My mercy and my faithfulness shall be with him.*_

Then you spoke in a vision.
To your faithful ones you said,
“I have set the crown on a warrior,
I have exalted one chosen from the people. *R/.*

I have found my servant David,
and with my holy oil anointed him.
My hand shall always be with him,
and my arm shall make him strong. *R/.*

My mercy and my faithfulness shall be with him;
by my name his might shall be exalted.
I will stretch out his hand to the Sea,
and his right hand upon the Rivers. *R/.*

_*GOSPEL ACCLAMATION*_
2nd Timothy 1: 10

Alleluia.
_Our Saviour Christ Jesus abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel._
Alleluia.

_*GOSPEL*_
_“Satan is coming to an end.”_
_*MARK 3: 22 - 30*_

At that time: The scribes who came down from Jerusalem said of Jesus, “He is possessed by Beelzebul, and by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.” And he called them to him, and said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man; then indeed he may plunder his house. “Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin” – for they had said, “He has an unclean spirit.”

_*THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B*_

*SUNDAY OF THE WORD OF GOD*

_*FIRST READING*_
_The Ninevites turned from their evil ways._
_*JONAH 3: 1 - 5, 10*_

The word of the Lord came to Jonah saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you.” So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days’ journey in breadth. Jonah began to go into the city, going a day’s journey. And he cried, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” And the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them. When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way, God repented said he would do to them; and he did not do.

_*RESPONSORIAL PSALM*_
_Psalm 25: 4 - 5ab, 6 and 7bc, 8 - 9 (R.) 4a_

_*R/. O Lord, make me know your ways.*_

O Lord, make me know your ways.
Teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth, and teach me;
for you are the God of my salvation. *R/.*

Remember your compassion, O Lord,
and your merciful love, for they are from of old.
In your merciful love remember me,
Because of your goodness, O Lord. *R/.*

Good and upright is the Lord;
he shows the way to sinners.
He guides the humble in right judgement;
to the humble he teaches his way. *R/.*

_*SECOND READING*_
_“The form of this world is passing away.”_
_*1ST CORINTHIANS 7: 29 - 31*_

I mean, brethren, the appointed time has grown very short; from now on, let those who have wives live as though they had none, and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no goods, and those who, deal with the world, as though they had no dealings with it. For the form of this world is passing away.

_*The Word of the Lord.*_

_*GOSPEL ACCLAMATION*_

Alleluia.
_The kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the Gospel._
Alleluia.

_*GOSPEL*_
_“Repent, rind believe the food News.”_
_*MARK 1: 14 - 20*_

After John was arrested; Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the Gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the Gospel.” And passing along by the Sea of Galilee, he saw, Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. And immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and followed him.
