📢 Public Notice: ESIA & Public Consultation Meetings

Residents, stakeholders, and interested community members are invited to participate in the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) consultations for proposed development projects in Rundu. Your input matters in shaping sustainable development for our town.

The current state of the Former SADF Canteen and the Apartheid-era Kavango Native Commissioner’s House (the oldest surviving building in Rundu) as of today, 11 June 2026.

Located behind Noordgrens Secondary School in Tutungeni, overlooking the Kavango River, these buildings sit in one of the most scenic spots in Rundu. The views from here are truly breathtaking, but the buildings have been left to rot away.

I will continue posting about this and tagging the relevant authorities until these buildings are rehabilitated and put to good use.

If the government is not able, many NGOs are willing to provide funding to transform these buildings into Rundu arts centre and tourist information centre. Private companies and individuals have also expressed interest in acquiring or leasing the buildings but those of us who are interested are being sent from pillar to post. We do not know where to submit our proposals, nor do we know which institution is the custodian of these two buildings.
