In Cabo Delgado, many families affected by displacement continue to face challenges accessing basic health care. In communities in Mocímboa da Praia and Mueda, UNICEF Mozambique and IOM are helping bring services closer through mobile clinics and community-based outreach.

These services include primary health care, nutritional support, maternal and infant health, routine vaccination and supplementation for children, HIV care, and general medical consultations for adults and children.

As part of a monitoring mission, IOM and UNICEF welcomed EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid to Mocímboa da Praia and Mueda for joint field visits.

In Mocímboa da Praia, the delegation visited IOM's Integrated Mobile Brigade and UNICEF-supported nutrition services at Mocímboa Rural Hospital. In Mueda, visits included IOM's Mobile Clinic at the Eduardo Mondlane Resettlement Site and the UNICEF-supported Mpeme health facility, where community health workers are treating acute malnutrition.

The visit highlighted both the progress made and the ongoing challenges in ensuring that people in remote and displacement-affected areas can access the care they need.

"Sometimes, I cannot reach the health centre when I need to." - Virgínia, Gaza Province 🇲🇿

In Gaza Province, floods have done more than destroy homes, they have cut entire communities off from essential health services. To bridge this gap, mobile health brigades are bringing critical care directly to people who need it most.

IOM Mozambique has concluded a series of community-level technical trainings on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) across 17 sites in Nhamatanda, Dondo, Chibabava, and Buzi districts in Sofala Province.

Delivered under the Innovation Norway - funded Scale-Up Project and NORCAP, the trainings strengthened the capacity of community NbS groups to implement agroforestry and climate-resilient agricultural practices.

A total of 717 community members from both displaced and host communities participated, demonstrating strong local commitment to sustainable land management and community resilience. Communities are now better equipped with practical skills that support environmental restoration, diversified livelihoods, strengthened food security, and enhanced resilience to climate change impacts.

The next phase of the initiative will focus on establishing tree nurseries and Farmer Field Schools (FFS) to support long-term agroforestry implementation across the 17 communities.

The goal: stronger food security and more resilient communities, built from the ground up using nature as the solution.

Migration has always shaped our world.

When migrants are met with stigma and discrimination, entire communities suffer.

A society that promotes dialogue, respect, and inclusion creates a safer future for everyone.

Peaceful coexistence begins with recognizing our shared humanity.

Climate action must be people-centred.

Climate change is already shaping how people live, move, adapt and rebuild. Effective climate action must protect people’s rights, reduce risks and support safe, dignified and sustainable options for those most affected.

People move in search of opportunities.

To grow.
To contribute.
To build a better life.
To find safety.

Migrants are not a threat.
They are human.
Workers, neighbours, parents, students, and dreamers.

Everyone deserves dignity, respect, and the chance to belong.

Timely support saves lives and helps restore hope and dignity

With the generous support of the African Development Bank Group, IOM is supporting Mozambique response to the floods that affected the country’s southern and central provinces.

To date, IOM has reached over 12,550 people across Gaza and Maputo provinces, marking an important step toward delivering 9,000 emergency shelters and essential household kits to approximately 45,000 people, particularly women and children.

The assistance is helping families recover through the distribution of shelter and non-food item (NFI) kits, awareness-raising sessions on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) and Building Back Safer (BBS).

IOM is grateful to the African Development Bank Group for its long-standing commitment to supporting sustainable recovery for communities affected by climate-related shocks in Mozambique.

🍲 Acesso a alimentos e 💧água
🛍️ Artigos de primeira necessidade

As equipas humanitárias, em estreita colaboração com seus parceiros, estão a responder activamente, continuando a identificar as necessidades, e a prestar assistência às comunidades afectadas.

Following severe flooding in Mozambique, IOM's integrated mobile health brigades are working alongside provincial health authorities in Gaza Province to support the deployment of health practitioners into hard-to-reach and flood-affected communities.

This support in capacity is helping local health services maintain continuity of care, ensuring that damaged infrastructure and difficult terrain are not a barrier to accessing essential health services.

This support is made possible with funding from the Mozambique Humanitarian Fund / OCHA Funds.
