It was a quiet night, the kind where the world feels still and peaceful. I lay on my bed, lost in deep sleep, when suddenly, a sensation jolted me awake. My throat had gone dry, and I found myself gasping for air. No matter how hard I tried, my lungs refused to take in oxygen.

Panic surged through me as I struggled, my body fighting desperately for breath. It felt as though every organ within me was screaming for air, each one battling to survive. The pain was unbearable—a suffocating agony that spread through every inch of my being. In that moment, a terrifying thought struck me: What if I die right now, drowning in this lack of oxygen? How much pain will this body endure before it finally lets go?

But what truly unnerved me was another question that arose in my mind: What about my soul? The soul that is so deeply attached to this body—what will happen to it? Fear gripped me, pushing me to fight even harder for breath. Instinct took over, and I forced myself to swallow, finally allowing air to rush into my lungs. Relief washed over me, but the fear and realization of that moment lingered.

For days, I couldn't shake the experience. I kept wondering: Is death really this painful? Is this suffering what we call hell? The thought disturbed me, sending me on a journey to seek answers. And then, I remembered something—an experience I had years ago while meditating.

During one deep meditation session, I felt my consciousness detach from my body. It was an odd sensation, as though my soul had left its physical vessel. My surroundings faded into complete darkness. Strangely, my breathing had stopped, yet there was no pain, no struggle for air. My body remained still, unaffected, while my consciousness floated freely.

But as I drifted in the abyss, fear took hold of me—not from suffocation, but from the overwhelming darkness surrounding me. The terror of the unknown gripped me so tightly that my soul rushed back to my body, reuniting with it in an instant.

That was when it clicked—the reason meditation is revered, the reason so many seek its mastery. Meditation is the path to death without pain. It is a way to detach from the suffering of the body and embrace Samadhi, a state of ultimate peace and liberation.

A realization dawned upon me: Learn the art of meditation while you are young. Do not wait for old age, where sickness and pain will force you into suffering. Instead, choose the path of Samadhi willingly, just as the great saint Raghavendra Swamy did.

For in mastering meditation, we may one day transcend suffering and embrace the eternal with grace.
