Worst thing I ever heard a mother say about her children:
“My children are going to be followers, not leaders”
Projecting much?

He was disgusting.
He said he thought of me when he did it with you.
Gross.

Many abusers further isolate survivors of domestic violence from their support network by behaving like the “perfect partner” around everyone they know.

Believe someone who discloses abuse the first time - just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean the person you know and trust is not capable of abuse.

If you are experiencing abuse in your relationship, your local domestic violence hotline can help you plan to make a safe escape. That number here in Philly is 1-866-723-3014.

She looks angry as she reads off the words on the projector screen behind her: “Refusing to believe a survivor of abuse because you have a great relationship with their abuser is victim-blaming behavior.”]

🌪 Scapegoated, Blamed, and Still Standing 🌪

I was the family scapegoat. And if I’m honest, I still am.

It’s not just the blame—it’s the constant undercurrent of shame. The way your accomplishments are ignored, your pain is minimized, and your truth is too inconvenient to be acknowledged. It hurts to be cast out. But it hurts more to be painted as the problem just for existing differently.

Meanwhile, the "golden child" can do no wrong. Their mistakes are brushed off. Mine? Magnified. Mocked. Weaponized.

If you grew up being the scapegoat too, I see you. You're not crazy. You're not broken. You're not to blame for the roles others forced on you.

🖤 You were just the truth-bearer in a family that couldn’t handle the mirror.

The greatest gift a narcissist will ever give you is the gift of their absence from your life.

It won't feel like a gift at first. It will feel like loss, like rejection, like your whole world quietly falling apart. You'll replay every moment, question every decision, and wonder what you could have done differently. But time has a way of revealing what pain initially hides from you.

The day they walked out was the day your healing quietly began. The chaos slowly settled, the confusion started lifting, and you began remembering who you were before they arrived and rewrote your story. Their departure gave you back your peace, your confidence, your voice, and your sense of reality. Everything they spent so long stripping away was suddenly yours again. So if they left, let them stay gone. What felt like abandonment was actually liberation, and what felt like an ending was actually the most important beginning of your entire life.
