INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE CLARIFIES ON THE DEAD KIDNAPPERS
Inspector General of Police Richard Luhanga has clarified that two men suspected to have kidnapped Nasrat Osman were shot dead in a rescue mission at Mpemba in Blantyre.
Luhanga has made the correction to yesterday's police statement which reported that four kidnappers were shot dead.
Police are yet get the real particulars of the kidnappers.

The Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science and Technology on Thursday held an engagement with The Malawi National Examinations Board-MANEB at the Parliament Building in Lilongwe as part of its oversight activities.
During the engagement, MANEB Executive Director Professor Dorothy Nampota briefed the Committee on the Boardโs ongoing projects and initiatives aimed at strengthening the administration and management of national examinations in Malawi.
Professor Nampota also provided an overview of the administration of national examinations, highlighting key processes and measures undertaken by MANEB to ensure the credibility, efficiency and integrity of examinations.
Led by its Chairperson, Honourable Mutani Tambala, the Committee also sought an update from MANEB on its operations, progress in implementing its programmes, and challenges affecting the effective administration of national examinations.

JANE ANSAH AT MWAIWATHU
The First Vice President of the Republic of Malawi Dr Jane Ansah today visited the Deputy Inspector General of Police Noel Kaira who is admitted to Mwaiwathu Hospital in Blantyre.
Kayira sustained gun shot injuries during a rescue operation to save the life of Nusrat Osman who was kidnapped by unidentified men on 11th September 2026 in Blantyre.
The operation took place on 17th September, 2026 at Mpemba in Blantyre District.

NO EXPIRY DATE ON NZIKA ID WALLET
Minister of Homeland Security, Peter Mukhito has officially launched the Nzika Digital ID Wallet in Lilongwe.
Mukhito revealed that the Nzika ID will have no expiry date adding that this is an innovative solution designed to modernize Malawi's Identity Management System.
Malawians have already started enjoying the service.

NASRAT RESCUED, KIDNAPPERS SHOT DEAD
The Malawi Police Service have confirmed the rescue of the kidnapped British National Nasrat Osman.
The four suspected kidnappers have been shot dead during an exchange of fire with police in Mpemba, around Chadzunda, Blantyre, according to a police statement.
The four were armed with an AK47 r***e and a Girsan Regard MC pistol.

EU Ambassador Engages Speaker on Support to Malawi and Parliament
The European Union ambassador to Malawi, Daniel Aristi Gaztelumendi this afternoon paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament of Malawi, Right Honourable Sameer Suleman, MP to brief him on the 2026 EU Annual Action Plan for Malawi as well as render his support to Parliamentโs efforts to carry out its functions of legislation, representation and oversight.
Ambassador Gaztelumendi said the EU had committed about EUR 143 million to the agriculture, energy and education sectors in 2026.
He informed the Speaker that EUR 35 million would go towards boosting agricultural productivity, EUR 40 million to energy efficiency enhancement and EUR 68 million towards boosting secondary school education.
The ambassador also appealed to Parliament, through the Speaker, to pay attention to the Refugee Bill expected to come before Parliament during the next Meeting which would look into issues of refugee determination, rights and obligations of refugees, procedures for refugees to pursue economic activity and revocation of refugee status.
In his response, Rt. Hon Suleman said Parliament through its oversight function will ensure that the EU support reaches the intended beneficiaries who are Malawians.
After a one on one meeting, Rt Hon. Suleman said the EU ambassador had pledged the EU's support to Parliament's oversight work.
He said it was encouraging that Parliament was being remembered by development partners who were embarking on such big projects in the country.

British High Commissioner to Malawi, Her Excellency Leigh Stubblefield, has pledged her countryโs support to Parliament of Malawi in strengthening parliamentary oversight and building the capacity of Members of Parliament and parliamentary staff.
Stubblefield made the remarks at Parliament Building in Lilongwe on Wednesday when she paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Right Honourable Sameer Suleman, MP.
She said the visit was aimed at understanding how Parliament of Malawi is discharging its oversight mandate and identifying areas where the British Government could provide support.
โThere are many areas of cooperation that we intend to support Parliament of Malawi, especially on training and capacity building of staff and Committees,โ said Stubblefield.
Right Honourable Suleman said the meeting had been fruitful and welcomed the United Kingdomโs continued support, describing the country as a longstanding and valued partner of Malawi.
He also disclosed that Parliament of Malawi had asked the United Kingdom to facilitate stronger links with the UK House of Commons, including the establishment of a friendship group between the two Parliaments.
โOur Parliaments should always be in touch, sharing ideas and experiences, but also assisting us in capacity building,โ said Speaker Suleman.
