Meet Thor Pedersen, the man who has traveled to every single country on Earth—203 nations—without ever stepping on a plane. His project, titled "Once Upon a Saga," began in October 2013 and took nearly ten years to complete.

Thor traveled by bus, train, and most famously, by container ships. He lived on a budget of just $20 a day and made it a rule never to return home until the mission was finished. His journey was nearly derailed in 2020 when he became "stuck" in Hong Kong for two years due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, but he refused to give up, eventually reaching his final country, the Maldives, in 2023.

Why did he do it? Thor wanted to prove that despite what we see in the news, "a stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet." By traveling slowly and staying on the ground, he was able to connect with people in a way that "flying over" them never allows. He worked as an ambassador for the Red Cross throughout his journey, sharing stories of human kindness from every corner of the globe.
