The unit is tasked with the advancement, facilitation and support of research at MUBAS by providing professional and expert assistance.

The second day of the 2024 SARIMA conference, hosted at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Maputo, Mozambique, was filled with activities. The day began with an opening ceremony led by the Mozambican Minister of Science and Technology and High Education, Prof. Eugenia Cossa; which was followed by a plenary session and several parallel sessions.
The conference continued to delve into the theme "It takes a village to raise a child," promoting the creation of impact in the research office through comprehensive research management and administration, soft skills in technology transfer, human-centric research ethics, integrity management, and grants management.
The day ended with MUBAS, along with other institutions, being honored with the SARIMA Excellence Award for Organizational Growth in Innovation Management at the gala awards dinner. The evening offered a chance for delegates to unwind, connect, and have a good time 😊 .

The 2024 SARIMA Conference, spanning three days and themed "It takes a village to raise a child," has begun on a high note today, the 3rd of September 2024. The conference has gathered research managers from all over Africa, offering them an opportunity to network and share knowledge.
The first day featured pre-conference workshops focused on comprehensive research management and administration, alongside the Gates Foundation's workshop on science communication and storytelling. The day concluded with a delightful welcome event at 17:00. These activities provided a platform for delegates to exchange insights, especially regarding the practices of research management and administration at their home institutions.
Four delegates from MUBAS are attending this year's SARIMA conference, with the Gates Foundation generously funding their participation.

On Thursday, 22nd August 2024, Jill Jupiter Jones, the Acting Deputy Mission Director of USAID, together with Dr. Tasokwa Kakota Chibowa, the Chief of Party for Transforming Higher Education, and the PMU team, visited MUBAS to acknowledge the research and innovation efforts funded by the US government. The visit began at the Vice Chancellor's office, where they discussed the US government's substantial contributions to Malawi, particularly its support for higher education institutions like MUBAS. Dr. Jill expressed her admiration for the presentations by the Research Support Unit Team and the ODeL team, which showcased milestones such as the creation of the Research Repository, the grant proposal submission portal, and the offline ODeL digital library.
In her opening remarks, Vice Chancellor Dr. Nancy Chitera recognized the assistance provided by the US government in enhancing capacity, thus fostering a conducive environment for research and innovation.

We are wrapping up a successful second day of Research and Innovation Week 2024.
The day began on a high note with insightful presentations from Dr. Chidziwisano and Dr. Kumwenda of the RSU. Their talks offered a comprehensive overview of research grant applications and management, emphasising the crucial role of the RSU in facilitating these processes.
In addition, we had a fantastic exhibition where students, UNIPOD, Design Studio, the Library, WASHTED, and the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) showcased their innovative projects.

Exciting News from the Research Support Unit
Today, we have kicked off the second Research and Innovation Week here at MUBAS’ Engineering auditorium, which will run from today until Wednesday, the 14th of August. This year's theme is "Research and Innovations for Wealth Creation," and we've got an incredible line-up of presentations and discussions.
Join us for talks from the staff and brilliant students, as well as engaging presentations from various departments and centres across the university. It is a fantastic opportunity to explore the research and innovative ideas that are driving progress and creating opportunities.
