In these settlements, young people are particularly at risk of poverty as they are deprived of adequate education and employment opportunities.

In the Western Balkans, vulnerable neighborhoods are a stark reminder of the turbulent transition from socialism to capitalism and illustrate the disregard for legal controls resulting from years of repressive rule. Despite their strong presence, young residents are often excluded from planning and development processes as they lack the ability and motivation to advocate for their needs. The proje

A small change in space can create a big change in how young people feel 🌿✨

What was once a neglected area in front of our high school has now become a cleaner, fresher, and more welcoming space for students to gather, connect, and spend time together. 💙

This transformation is the result of youth ideas, teamwork, and action — proving that when young people care for their community, positive change becomes visible.

Real change begins when young people take action 💪🌱

Together, the youth of our high school turned ideas into action by working side by side to improve their school space. Through teamwork, creativity, and dedication, they are helping create a more welcoming and comfortable environment for all students ✨

Small actions can make a big difference when a community comes together 🤝

Ulcinj - Our high school is more than just a building — it is a place where young people learn, grow, create friendships, and build their future 📚✨

But the spaces where youth spend their time also matter. A school environment should be welcoming, comfortable, and inspiring for every student. Seeing the current condition of the outdoor area and broken seating, we realized that change starts with us.

Together with our youth, we decided to take action and help create a space where students can gather, relax, share ideas, and feel better in the environment they spend so much time in 🌱

Because if the spaces where young people grow are not cared for, how can we expect other places for youth to become better?

Ideas grow stronger when created together 💡🤝

Over two inspiring days (27-28.04.) in 📍Ulcinj, New Horizon gathered local youth for a creative workshop focused on community intervention ideas and local change.
Through discussions, teamwork, and co-creation sessions 💬, participants shared their perspectives, identified community needs, and developed innovative concepts for improving public spaces and community life 🌱

Thank you to all the young people who brought their energy, ideas, and motivation to the workshop and helped turn conversations into visions for positive change 💙

Through the “Treasure Hunting” game, students explored the plateau by identifying hidden potentials, accessibility barriers, gathering spaces, and opportunities for play and temporary activities.

More than a game, the pop-up became a playful way of reading, understanding, and reimagining public space together.

The first pop-up event brought the space to life through play, interaction, and spontaneous gathering. Through colorful urban furniture and simple game-based interventions, the space shifted from a place of passage into a place of stay.
