Creating a New Concept for Socio-Cultural Village Trips in Europe
The project of interpersonal exchange through cultural trips in Europe will be based on a new concept of socio-cultural exchange and tourism in rural areas. It is intended to use this concept later on as a template for similar projects in other regions or municipalities. As the social-cultural aspects play a key role in this way of thinking, the exchange between tourists and local people and their active participation are the backbone in the project.

Tohmajärvi municipality and local entrepreneur association organized a competition of Christmas manger (seimi in Finnish) in Central Karelia in Eastern Finland. It is part of the Leader project which aim is to create joy and life in Tohmajärvi. Among eight mangers Onkamo's one won the first prize. Most of mangers are situated on the side of main or local road and they are easily accessible. There are also presentations 15th and 22th Dec where builders tell how mangers have been made in Värtsilä, Saario, Riikola, Onkamo and Tikkala.
Onkamon seimi voitti Tohmajärven seimikilpailun Onkamon kyläläisten jouluseimi valittiin voittajaksi Tohmajärven seimikilpailussa. Kahdeksan seimen joukosta voittaja valittiin raadin toimesta joulukuun ensimmäisenä sunnuntaina. Raati luonnehti kilpailua kovatasoiseksi.

CULTrips took part in the Nordic-Baltic Leader Cooperation Award in Tallinn 26-27 Sep 2013. The two days event included seminar, Gala event and excursion. The CULTrips project was in the final of three other tourism projects. We got a diploma and a beautiful plate. All 21 finalists are presented in the booklet. CULTrips Group at the closing Meeting in Luxemburg - what a great bunch of People :-)
CULTrips project is among 21 finalists in the The Nordic-Baltic Leader Cooperation Award. The Award event will be held in Estonia 26-27 September 2013. CULTrips project will be part of the tourism activities. Estonian CULTrips places and activities will be shown during the field trip in Raplamaa Region 27 Sep. There is also Open voting for the People's Choice Awards of the Nordic-Baltic Leader Cooperation Award.

After three full days socio cultural tourism Pilot Trip 13-15 June 2013 in Styria in Austria 12 visitors got many nice experineces about local specialities, like balloon ride, a visit in local fruit farm, baking an apple strudel (pie), horse carriage and steam train ride.
