Back in 1991, RSDA grew out of a German food-for-work program which was ran in the Mafeteng and Leribe districts. We knew something had to be done.
We have been operating for over 30 years, working alongside Basotho (the people of Lesotho), local communities and the government to help small-holder famers become self-reliant. When we opened our doors as a registered non-governmental organisation (NGO), Lesotho was going through a food crisis. And we knew we needed to help famers become more self-sufficient. Our reason for being, then as now, it to promote self-help farming methods. We work with farmers to spread knowledge of sustainable land use while making the most locally-available assets: seeds, chickens, manure, livestock, etc.

Yesterday, RSDA in partnership with Department of Livestock Services proudly held a Jersey Cow Promotion and Field Day at the Botha-Bothe Milk Collection Centre. The event brought together dairy farmers, government officials, private sector, and development partners to discuss opportunities and challenges in strengthening Lesotho’s dairy sector and promoting quality domestic milk production.
The day included farm visits, insightful presentations and panel discussions for knowledge sharing aimed at improving dairy farming and supporting farmer livelihoods.
A sincere thank you to all dairy farmers, partners, and stakeholders who participated and contributed to the success of the day.
The initiative is supported by Jersey Overseas Aid through its Dairy for Development program implemented by Royal Jersey Agricultural and Horticultural Society.
