Accessory dwelling units (ADUs) are a valuable tool to broaden choice in single-family neighborhoods, but ADUs make up just a small fraction of the new housing units built in many communities. The AARP Public Policy Institute has partnered with the American Planning Association on a new guide to help municipalities identify and overcome the challenges that limit the local supply and legal occupancy of ADUs.
