2026 POPULATION AND HOUSING STAKEHOLDER FORUM
June 10,2026-The Minister of Finance and Development Planning Hon.Retselisitsoe Matlanyane with Bureau of Statistics held a stakeholder forum on discussing the Population and Housing Census and its importance for national development
Honourable Retselisitsoe Matlanyane states that census is an important exercise because it helps the country know how many people live in Lesotho and where they are located. Accurate census data will assist the government in planning and delivering social services such as education, health care, housing, and infrastructure.
She highlited that the information collected will also help in the allocation of resources across different regions and support the monitoring of development progress.
Furthermore she noted that reliable data is essential for making informed decisions and ensuring that development programmes meet the needs of the population. However, challenges such as network connectivity in some areas may affect data collection and will need to be addressed to ensure the success of the census.
The government of Lesotho values the information gathered through census and encourages this important national exercise should countinuely be supported.
