4 common misconceptions students have about learning are:

1. Learning is quick - students tend to think learning and understanding should occur faster than it actually does and may cause discouragement when they feel they are not learning and retaining the information being taught. Students need to be taught that there are no shortcuts to comprehension and understanding.

2. Knowledge is made up of isolated facts - this misconception may result in students memorising definitions and information and regurgitating it when called upon and not fully understanding the concept and they never develop a intrinsic understanding or how to reason with and apply concepts. The best way to correct this misconception is by making students apply their knowledge on concepts and put into practice instead of defining and explaining.

3. Being good at subject is an inborn talent rather than hard work - Many students often say things like "I can't do Maths" or "I can't read" because they believe that because they don't grasp it quickly or as quick as their peers that they can't do it and it was something they weren't born with the competency to complete. This results in students losing interest and thus not working hard enough at it.

4. You can multi-task during learning/studying - Although people can multi-task, performing multiple activities while trying to grasp a concept or learn something new is not nearly as affective as focussing your full attention on that concept and working at comprehending it completely.
