Version control exits for a reason 📌📌📌📌📌📌

If the code does not work, you have two real options:

Understand why it broke, fix it and make it work properly.

Or delete it completely.

If it is not being used, it does not belong in the codebase.

What you should not do is leave it there half-dead, commented out.

Because you probably will not.🥲

And neither will anyone else.

Version control exists for a reason. You can always bring it back if you need it.

But chances are you will not.

Tag a developer whose codebase is 30% commented-out ‘TODO: fix later’ lines. 😭

In 1989, a frustrated scientist at CERN was facing a simple but dangerous problem.

Computers were everywhere, but they could not talk to each other.

Files were trapped on separate machines. Information lived in isolated systems. Researchers stored knowledge, but sharing it was slow, broken, and sometimes impossible.

Knowledge existed, but it was locked away.

The scientist watching this problem unfold was Tim Berners-Lee.

Born in London, United Kingdom, Tim was a computer scientist working at CERN, one of the world’s largest research laboratories. He was highly skilled, deeply curious, and surrounded by brilliant researchers whose work was constantly being lost inside incompatible computer systems.

At first Tim was not trying to invent the internet.

He was simply tired of watching information stay trapped in one place, inaccessible to the people who needed it most.

You could travel from New York to Manchester and cannot access your research documents from your computer in a new location till you are back

He kept asking a simple question.

What if computers could talk to each other?
What if documents could connect to other documents?
What if information could be opened instantly, no matter where it was stored?

In March 1989, Tim put his idea on paper and wrote a proposal titled Information Management.

It was not flashy. It was not dramatic. It was practical.

He handed it to his boss, who read through it and scribbled a short note on the cover.

“Vague, but exciting.”

That was enough.

Tim went back to work and began building a system based on three simple ideas.

First, HTML, a way to structure documents so computers could understand them.

Second, HTTP, a method that allowed computers to request and send information to each other.

Third, URLs, a unique address for every piece of information, so anything could be found from anywhere.

He pieced them together and called it World Wide Web (www)

By 1990, it worked.
