WAEC Releases 2026 Examination Results, Female Candidates Record Higher Pass Rate

MONROVIA, LIBERIA: August 20,2026 — The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Liberia has released the results of the 2026 examinations, with female candidates recording a slightly higher pass rate than their male counterparts.

According to WAEC Liberia Head, Mr. Dale Gbegbele Gbotoe, a total of 33,741 students, representing 60.37 percent, passed the examination, while 22,146 students, or 39.63 percent, were unsuccessful.

The results show that 17,732 of the 28,826 female candidates who sat the examination passed, representing a 61.51 percent pass rate.

Among the male candidates, 16,009 of the 27,061 who sat the examination passed, representing 59.16 percent.

The figures therefore indicate that female candidates recorded a 2.35 percentage-point higher pass rate than their male counterparts in the 2026 examination.

WAEC Liberia said a total of 57,388 students registered for the 2026 examination, which was administered nationwide from June 1 to June 19, 2026.

The release of the results provides schools, students, parents, and education stakeholders with an opportunity to assess the performance of candidates and identify areas requiring further academic support.

In simple terms, “Liberia agreed to accept third-country deportees from America” means:

The United States is deporting some people who are not Liberian citizens.
Instead of sending those people back to their own countries, the U.S. can send them to Liberia.

They are called “third-country deportees” because Liberia is neither their home country nor the United States.
The current agreement reportedly allows up to 1,200 people over one year, with an initial group of about 20 expected shortly.

The people may come from African countries, the Caribbean, and North or South America. They are not necessarily criminals; the arrangement concerns people whom the U.S. has ordered removed but cannot or does not return directly to their home countries.

According to the reported arrangement, those accepted by Liberia can apply for asylum in Liberia or leave Liberia if they choose.

So, Liberia is essentially agreeing to serve as the receiving country for certain people being removed from the United States, even though those people are not Liberian citizens.
