βοΈApril 6, 1996: The Day Monrovia Stood Still π
History isn't just found in textbooks; itβs etched into the soul of a city and the memories of its people. For Liberians, April 6, 1996, isn't just a date on the calendar it is a scar. It marks the beginning of a period of chaos that transformed our capital into a landscape of grief and resilience.
What started as a political move. An attempt to arrest Roosevelt Johnson quickly spiraled out of control. Within hours, the fragile peace was shattered. Rival factions turned the streets of Monrovia into a battlefield, and the city we called home became a literal war zone.

Tragedy in Jacob Town, Zone 5, where a boy believe to be in his early 19s, has drowned in the St. John River.
March 29, 2026
It was a quiet Sunday afternoon that turned into a scene of grief for the Jacob Town community. Residents gathered along the riverbank after a grim discovery was made.
Police and local sources confirm that the body of a young man, believed to be in his early 19s, was pulled from the St. John River today, March 29th.
On Saturday, March 28th, around 4:00 PM, the victim left his home where he lives with his parents. He allegedly told them he was going to the St. John River to take a bath. When he did not return, concern grew.
The search ended today, Sunday afternoon, when his lifeless body was discovered in the water. There was no immediate sign of foul play, though an investigation is underway.
The victim was a student attending the Francis Nya Maweah Public School. Neighbors describe him as a quiet young man. Authorities are reminding the public about the dangers of swimming in unmonitored river areas.
Our condolences to his family and classmates.
