*Freetown City Council Donates Food Supplies to Some of Freetown’s Most Vulnerable*⠀

Residents of about 6,000 households will sleep better tonight after Mayor Aki-Sawyerr, on behalf of Freetown City Council, donated cooking provisions to some of Freetown’s most vulnerable!⠀
⠀
Three informal settlements - Rokupr, Crab Tong-Kolleh Town-Grey Bush (CKG) and Cockle Bay - received 50 bags of rice, 15 bags of onions and other cooking provisions for their most vulnerable to use over the three-day lockdown period.⠀

The donation is part of Freetown City Council’s efforts to improve service delivery to its residents, particularly the most vulnerable during the period of uncertainty caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. ⠀

Present were Councillors and staff of Freetown City Council who supported the Mayor when she made the donations.⠀
⠀

The white sands of Tokeh Beach take on a golden hue in the late afternoon sun as a rainstorm moves over the Peninsula Mountains towards Freetown, Sierra Leone.⠀

The Freetown Peninsula is one of the few places in West Africa where mountains touch the Atlantic Ocean. Some sources suggest (though it’s far from settled) that to the 15th Century Portuguese explorer Pedro de Sinatra, the hills surrounding Freetown evokes a sleeping lioness, which he named _Serra da Leoa_ (lioness mountains) and from which, over time, the name Sierra Leone was derived.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

At 564m above sea level, Freetown's Leicester Peak offers an amazing view of the city (not to mention a refreshing breeze).
