Liberia movies union Upcoming election.

LIBERIA MOVIE UNION ELECTIONS ON THE WAY…
As it is enshrined within the amended Constitution of the Liberia Movie Union, elections should be held after every three years. And the PRO of the Industry has announced to the public quite recently that elections will be held this December at a location and date unknown.
Our focus has been drown to few things: The names that have popped up and the massive nominations. But before we go into the names popping up everywhere, let us take a look at the Eddie’s government that is about to end.
Mr. Eddie Gibson took office 2020 through a democratic means replacing Mr. Gregory Artus Frank with some promises for which we will state two (2): Train lots of females to become DOPs and make us realize our talents returns financially. When Eddie took over, these things were observed during his regime:
1. He elapsed the time given him by the constitution to have his first general meeting as few filmmakers were alarming and complaining. General meetings in total have not been held for over a protracted period of time which is constitutionally wrong.
2. The Union at a point was operating 3 days a week, left virtually locked almost always
3. Lack of adequate personal engagement as seeing the President was maybe on Facebook or at the office when he is around.
4. The many female DOPs are yet to be seen
5. He travelled out of town constantly as his other job’s station is out of town
6. Decentralization wasn’t a priority, other Counties could not feel the impact of the Union
7. Actors, Directors and Producers Guild were extremely dormant and the President who had every right to call for National Executive Committee Meeting to summon those elected officials and subsequently reach out to the general public to conduct by elections failed to do so. Those 3 Guilds failed massively under his regime with nothing said or done.
8. The PRO after a year and a half became dormant until few days ago when he posted in the chat rooms about Elections.
9. The Vice President for Operations became dormant and that too, no publication, no by election, no actions.
10. The Union became so dormant that literally everyone forgot that there exist a Union due to lack of touch with filmmakers across the Country.
11. Lack of trainings across the Country or Counties
12. Filmmakers are still left to strive for themselves
13. The American base Liberian Director of MAACHA, Director Charles came down Last Year to shoot his project with so many issues happening to Actors and other crew members who he refused to pay. Some of the information reached the Union and nothing was done about it. In the end, Mr. Gibson announced Director as Ambassador to the USA for the Union. As of date, most of those people are yet to be paid and the nomination has proven to be fruitless.
It is also important to note that amongst all those irregularities and constitutional lapses, Mr. Gibson was able to achieve securing for Performing Arts to be taught in the State Run University and a College named CENSIL along the Paynesville belt. He also secured a land for the Union. A film festival and Awards were held during his regime which is not the first time nor second in the history of Liberia Movie Union obviously. Things to appreciate him for.
The names popping up for this year’s elections are Mr. Abdul-Karim Sheriff and Mr. Eddie Gibson the incumbent. We have seen over six nominations on Facebook so far endorsing the candidacy of Mr. Abdul-Karim Sheriff and one demeaning, aggressive and subjective counter post to the nominations of Mr. Sheriff in favor of Mr. Eddie Gibson. We reached out to Mr. Sheriff a day ago concerning these endorsements and he said “I RESPECT EVERYONE’S OPINION AND ENDORSEMENTS BUT MY FAMILY AND I WILL SPEAK TO THAT IN DUE TIME”. As we have been so anxious to hear from the horse’s mouth, we were disappointed as he didn’t give us any clue. We then reached out to few close confidants of his and one said “WHEN HE WAS ENGAGED BY US ABOUT CONTESTING HE SAID HIS MIND WASN’T THINKING THAT DIRECTION YET, SURPRISINGLY TO US AFTER TWO (2) DAYS WE STARTED SEEING ENDORSEMENTS AND SINCE THEN HE HAS RECEIVED TONS OF CALLS AND MESSAGES FROM FILMMAKERS IN LIBERIA, SIERRA LEONE, NIGERIA AND AMERICA ENCOURAGING HIM TO CONTEST. EVEN JOURNALISTS ARE CALLING HIM. BUT HE IS YET TO RESPOND TO ANY OF THEM”.
We indirectly reached out to Mr. Gibson to ascertain if he will contest for the second time and we got a resounding YES from our source!
The two Contestants just in few general descriptions as it relates to the Union: Mr. Gibson is one of the founding members of the Movie Union, he is a passionate and professional Actor with traveling experience. He is referred to as quote on quote The Most Educated President of the Union. He once served as Interim President of the Liberia Movie Union in 2018 and currently the President of the Movie Union since 2020.
Mr. Sheriff, became part of the Union 2008, served as the Secretary General.
