Buchanan, Grand Bassa County(May 27, 2026) Grand Bassa County Superintendent Karyou Johnson, along with Mac-Africa Consultants Inc., has conducted a joint inspection tour of several projects being implemented under the ArcelorMittal 20 percent Social Development Fund for affected communities in Grand Bassa County.
During the inspection, Superintendent Johnson expressed serious disappointment over the current condition and slow progress of the various projects visited, citing poor supervision, lack of proper monitoring, and concerns surrounding the payment process to contractors.
According to the Superintendent, contractors allegedly failed to follow the agreed milestones before receiving payments for the projects. He further criticized the payment arrangement, noting that a contractor reportedly received US$26,000 while a remaining balance of US$5,000 would be insufficient to complete the work.
Superintendent Johnson said the situation reflects inadequate oversight and monitoring by those responsible for supervising the projects, adding that affected communities deserve better development outcomes from the ArcelorMittal fund.
As part of efforts to address the issue, the Superintendent has instructed the County Development Officer Hon. Moses Henry to provide a written explanation regarding the contractorsโ failure to complete the projects intended for the affected communities.
Communities visited during the inspection included Big Fanti Town, Korduah, Tinway Town, and Fairground.
