The Routledge Companion to Sinhala Fiction from Post-War Sri Lanka
Edited and translated by Madhubhashini Disanayaka Ratnayake
This companion presents a critical collection of Sinhala resistance literature from Sri Lanka. It includes translated short stories and excerpts from Sinhala novels, written after the war between the Sri Lankan state and the Tamil separatist militants in the country. There are 14 Sinhala writers represented here, most multiple national award winners: Liyanage Amarakeerthi, Kathyana Amarasinghe, Eric Illiyapparachchi, Prabhath Jayasinghe, Jayatilaka Kammallaweera, Piyal Kariyawasam, Kumari Kumaragamage, Kaushalya Kumarasinghe, Tennyson Perera, Reverend Batuwangala Rahula, Sunethra Rajakarunanayake, Ajit Tilakasena, Keerthi Welisarage and Nissanka Wijemanne. The work is arranged according to themes dealing with the issues that afflict a post-war country, thereby giving a chance for non-Sinhala speakers to have an in-depth look at how some among the ethnic Sinhala community think and feel, an aspect not often caught in non-literary platforms such as media, and other easily accessible/propagated means.
