Sigiriya

The site dates back to the 5th century CE when King Kashyapa I (477-495 CE) chose this dramatic location for his royal citadel. According to historical accounts, Kashyapa built his palace complex on top of the rock after seizing the throne from his father and fearing retaliation from his half-brother, the rightful heir.
