MAGA signed an agreement with USAID to pursue commercial mediation to settle disputes as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism, along with 7 other Sri Lankan corporates. The agreements enable the companies to receive commercial mediation training, exposure to international-standard mediation and commercial mediation services and encourage companies to increasingly incorporate mediation to resolve disputes.

MAGA Secures 09 National Construction Awards at CIDA Awards Ceremony.
Completed in January 2018, the 15-storey Applewatta housing complex is part of the Government’s long-term Urban Regeneration Project.
Dubbed ‘Laksetha Sevana’, the 387,000 sqft. complex consists of 480 fully equipped housing units for families from underserved settlements and slums in the area.
The Urban Regeneration Project implemented by the UDA focuses on enhancing the status and livelihoods of under-privileged communities in urban areas around Sri Lanka’s capital. As such, the project aims to construct 70,000 suitable housing units for communities living in underserved settlements without access to basic needs.
The Jaffna Teaching Hospital Extension: A project delivered on time despite post-war challenges.
Construction of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital extension began just after the end of the civil war. Despite a dearth in material and human resources in the area, the project team ensured timely delivery of the project, in 2012, under the guidance of the Main Contractor of the project Wakachiku-Sato Joint Venture of Japan.
Maga constructed an extension to the leading hospital in the Northern Province, involving of a 3-storey complex containing ultra-modern facilities such as an operating theater complex, intensive care units, a central laboratory complex and central facilities for diagnostic imaging.
Though completed in 1996, the Hemas Corporate Building looks right at home in Colombo's modern cityscape.
Designed by Mihindu Keerthiratne Associates, the building effects a modern metropolitan tone, and reflects the Company's brand and logo in its striking façade. When constructed by Maga Engineering, the building was one of Colombo’s major mid-rise corporate office complexes, featuring 10-storeys and a floor area of 95,000 sqft. Success of the project won MAGA its first ever National Construction Excellence Award.
Did you know? When completed in 2008, Kandy City Centre was the largest commercial shopping complex of its time in the country.
Located at the heart of the multi-layered capital of the hill country, KCC is a 10-storeyed commercial and shopping complex constructed by Maga Engineering. This flagship complex has been designed and built to preserve and enhance the ancient architectural legacy of the city.
The complex is surrounded by four buildings symbolising the city’s cultural diversity: The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, the Kataragama Devalaya, a church, and a mosque. The complex opened with over 75 state-of-the-art commercial centres, banks, supermarkets, restaurants, and an entertainment zone, bringing an elegant blend of history, culture, and modernity.

In January last year, MAGA completed rehabilitation of the Tampitiya to Chenkaladi stretch of the A-5 road, which connects Sri Lanka’s Central Province to the East coast.
Scope of work involved rehabilitation of 27 km, and also included rehabilitation and construction of 88 culverts and 22 bridges.
Part of an overall rehabilitation of a 151km section of the A-5 Peradeniya-Badulla-Chenkaladi Road, the project is expected to improve road safety, facilitate access to markets, social services, and job opportunities, and will lead to lower transport costs of agricultural produce and industrials goods.
Kolonna-Balangoda WSP: Extensive rural water supply schemes for rapidly growing towns.
In 2015, MAGA delivered two water projects aimed at providing drinking water to residents of the Kolonna and Balangoda towns and suburbs, comprising a population of almost 50,000.
MAGA’s scope of work included all civil works of the project, including construction of two water treatment plants of 7,000m³/day capacity each, construction of 4 ground reservoirs with a total capacity of 3,750m³ and 68Km long transmission & distribution system. The project also involved construction of intakes at the Eraporuwa and Walawe rivers. The project team had to employ extensive steel cofferdams capable of withstanding possible flooding, and adapt innovative strategies to install Raw Water Mains which traversed rocky forest areas along the river.
An iconic bridge spanning Sri Lanka’s longest river, the Mahiyangana Sakura Bridge was constructed by Maga Engineering in 1998.
The bridge spans 224m across the mighty Mahaweli River on its journey from Horton Plains to meet the Indian ocean at Koddiyar Bay in Trincomalee. Before construction of the bridge, the two banks of the river showed a stark divide in fortunes, economic outcomes, and access, with residents having to travel long distances or cross the river on foot when water levels receded.
Construction of the bridge has catalysed development, united communities, and added a novel and beautiful structure that has grown to become a local attraction. The bridge has also increased access to the Wasgomuwa and Maduru Oya National Parks, and facilitated travel between neighbouring towns and larger cities like Dambulla, a central hub for agricultural produce and part of Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle.

Maga undertook the construction of five groundbreaking residential real-estate projects in Rajagiriya that set a benchmark for vertical living in Sri Lanka. These high-rises reflect a blend of comfort, space, and functionality, while adopting the principles of lean and efficient architectural and structural design.
From shaping this beautiful urban habitat where modern high-rises co-exist with the surrounding wetland ecosystem, to building the city’s largest cantilevered sky-garden, MAGA has helped bring to life a renewed vision for high-rise abodes. The projects received a number of National Construction Awards, testament to their groundbreaking nature and successful delivery.
Stunning views of Le Grand Hotel, Galle. This large 57-room property was built on a cliff overlooking Sri Lanka’s UNESCO Heritage site – the Galle Fort. Designed by PWA architects, the property blends seamlessly with the natural landscape and boasts unspoiled views of the world heritage monument and the Indian ocean.
MAGA’s scope of work included construction of the entire superstructure, including construction on hard rock strata at ground level whilst ensuring preservation of the nearby coastal environment. Embracing the natural landscape, the hotel follows a ‘without boundaries’ concept, employing environmentally conscious design and construction techniques.
Sri Lanka's A-9 road is iconic in the Country's history, as the main land-accessway to the Northern Province. After decades of civil war ended in 2009, rehabilitation of the A-9 road was a vital component of post-war rehabilitation.
MAGA’s scope of work comprised rehabilitation and improvement of a vital segment of the road from Paranthan to Jaffna. The project was successfully completed four and half months ahead of schedule, exemplifying the ability of a local construction management team to deliver large scale infrastructure development projects. The project was awarded a National Construction Performance award in recognition of its standout success.
Iconic Galaxy being constructed by Maga Engineering, is nearing completion.
The project is an innovative venture by the Apurva Natvar Parikh Group (ANPG), designed by award-winning architects. Crafted to be a landmark, Iconic Galaxy is located in Rajagiriya, one of Colombo’s most sought-after suburbs. The 33-storey residential tower is an invaluable addition to the city skyline, with its design and quality already recognised with an Asia Pacific Property Award.
The Sri Lanka-Singapore Friendship College at Weeraketiya came to life in 2009 through a successful collaboration between the Singapore Red Cross Society (project financing), Singapore Sinhala Association (project development) and Maga Engineering (design, construction & project management). The complex developed rural school infrastructure to accommodate 1200 students from the Tsunami-affected South Coast.
The company’s efficient construction management enabled the school to be completed within the project’s budgetary constraints, thereby enabling life-changing social impact for the region.

Construction of this massive facility, spread over 7 acres, signalled the first private Foreign Direct Investment in Sri Lanka’s hospital sector. The Lanka Hospitals (formerly Apollo Hospitals) complex was equipped with 350-beds and 5 Operating Theaters within its 11 storied, 31,300 sqm space. Setting benchmarks in the Sri Lankan healthcare industry, the newly constructed hospital contained state-of-the-art cardiac, neurological and orthopedic care facilities, Dedicated Intensive Care Units (ICU) and emergency service care facilities, including a helipad.
The project won MAGA a prestigious International Federation of Western Pacific Contractors Association’s (IFAWPCA) Gold Medal for construction excellence and a National Construction Excellence award.
MAGA recently completed the Kalinga Mawatha housing complex, which consists of three 12-storey towers with a total of 528 housing units. Each housing unit covers a 400 sqft carpet area. The project designed by the State Engineering Corporation (SEC), is part of the government’s efforts to provide low-income category housing units for families from underserved settlements and slums in Colombo. Maga Engineering undertook Construction and Financing of balance work of the complex in 2018 as the main contractor, and successfully completed the project on schedule.

The New Headquarters of Sri Lanka Customs is a large 13-storey complex that covers a total floor area of more than 40,000 square feet and includes office/administrative space, state-of-the-art conference hall and meeting facilities, restaurant, museum, recreational facilities, and necessary parking space. The building marries form and function with aluminium façades on the exterior and a modern Building Management System (BMS) at its heart. Considering the building’s role as an administrative headquarters for National Customs, the structure also included a number of high security elements and features.
With construction nearing completion, The Grand stands tall as an exemplary project celebrating a strong partnership between the country’s leading real-estate company and Sri Lanka’s largest construction firm.
The Grand is a self-contained lifestyle complex that features Sri Lanka’s longest 71-meter elevated infinity pool on the 31st floor, along with a pool bar, restaurant and an exclusive entertainment area. This 39-storey Super Luxury Apartment Complex covers a total floor area of 836,894 sqft, and comprises 319 apartments. Fairway Colombo is a four-star modern business hotel situated at the heart of Colombo’s Central Business District and entertainment hub. This 8-storey hotel blends accessibility with great design, across its 125,000 sqft floor area. Constructed on a small footprint with minimal disturbance to the surroundings, the project featured a number of innovations that enabled successful delivery of the project in the heart of a busy city.

Lighthouse Hotel, Galle: An architectural masterpiece on Sri Lanka’s Southern Coast
The Lighthouse Hotel is a five-star boutique hotel designed by world-renowned architect Geoffrey Bawa. The property lies atop a rocky outcropping overlooking the Indian Ocean and boasts Bawa’s post-modern design integrating architecture and natural landscape with open spaces and minimalist structures. The design celebrates Galle’s history while confronting and contrasting the crashing waves and rugged coastline. Construction teams worked closely with the architectural team in actualising these intricate features and preserving the natural rock outcrop and terrain, conforming to the lucid design intent of the late Geoffrey Bawa.
MAGA’s role as Main Contractor was recognised with a National Construction Excellence Award, cementing the company’s entry into the leisure sector.

Located amongst verdant surroundings with scenic views, The University of Sri Jayewardenepura’s (USJ) new Faculty of Technology was designed and built by MAGA Engineering and Engineering Consultants (Pvt) Ltd (ECL).
Hailing the faculty’s technological thrust and USJ’s rich history, the complex marries technology and tradition, reflecting contemporary architecture in the information era.
In March 2020, together with the Ministry of Education and University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Maga Engineering and ECL completed this exemplary complex, which is creating a paradigm shift in the country’s higher education system by providing opportunities in STEM industries and supporting the Nation’s manufacturing drive.

Borella Ayurveda Teaching Hospital’s bright red rooftops make it stand out amidst the green and grey of the city.
The oldest and largest government Ayurvedic hospital in Sri Lanka, Borella Ayurvedha Hospital was founded in 1929. In 2018, MAGA designed and constructed an expansion to upgrade the hospital to the status of a teaching hospital. The expansion consists of two 7-storey buildings that included rooms and wards accommodating 357 beds, a theatre and ICU, student lecture room, conference hall, doctors and nurses’ rooms, and adequate public spaces.
