Alsama
Alsama means “sky” in Arabic. We educate refugee teenagers and empower refugee women.
“Our planet is full of answers and wonders, and curiosity, even a simple question is the key to unlocking them.” — Olaa
This video was created by our Year 4 student, Olaa, who asked our staff and students one simple but powerful question:
If the whole world was listening, what would you say?
Now it’s your turn. What’s your message?

"I felt so hopeful. Honestly, the night before, I couldn't sleep like a student on their first day of school. Even though we reopened before the students returned, I truly felt how strong and capable we are of continuing despite everything." Ms. Souad
After two months of closure, our two centers in Bourj Al Barajneh have finally reopened their doors.
While learning has continued online, we cannot wait to welcome back our students and hear their voices fill our centers again.
We are holding on to hope for better days ahead, in Lebanon and around the world.

While the world around her was in chaos, Jana found a different world to live in.
"Everyone around me was repeating the same words about the war. My books were my only escape; they helped me manage my emotions and organize my thoughts."
Jana, Year 3 student
In just one month, Jana finished all seven parts of the Kingdom of Rhetoric series. These stories are about courage and patience, and Jana says she found exactly what she was missing within their pages.
Our librarian, Fatima, presented Jana with a special award today to celebrate this achievement.
"Jana was in the library every single day to return a book and take another. It was amazing to see her focus so deeply despite everything happening outside. She is a role model for all of us."
Fatima, Year 6 student
We are constantly inspired by how our students find the strength they need in books, even in the hardest times.

The doors to our centers in bourj al barajneh may be closed, but the learning hasn’t stopped for a single moment.
Even after the bombings and the displacement of our students and staff, our community is showing that education has no borders. We’re so proud to see 90% attendance. Our students are fighting to keep learning, and our teachers are refusing to let them down.
Meet Shahed. She had to return to Syria due to the war, but she hasn't let that stop her. She joins her classes online every day, holding onto her dreams despite everything.
To our students, teachers, and staff: Your strength and commitment inspire us every day. Keep going.
How we’re helping: We are providing mobile credit to our displaced students and their families to ensure they stay connected and keep learning.

From Shatila to the global stage.
Representing girls from the camps, Tasneem and Roaa spoke in front of 60 UNICEF attendees at the Mövenpick Hotel, including the Deputy Representative.
Using a video they created, they made sure their voices were heard. Now, they are helping UNICEF develop and implement a new 6-year strategy.
This is part of the Makani project, in partnership with Beit Atfal Al-Sumoud.

Even in war, life doesn’t stop and neither does learning. Every day, our students show up.
They come not just to study, but to maintain a sense of normal life. At Alsama, they read, create, and learn together.
“When I come to Alsama, I feel safe with my friends, and studying keeps me distracted from everything happening around me.” — Ahmad, Year 1 student.

Our students are just months away from university.
They lost their education once in Syria. Then, in Lebanon, war disrupted it again, not once, but twice. Still, they kept going.
They’ve come too far to stop now. Help them reach the finish line.

Even in difficult times, our students still find reasons to smile.
Today they gathered at Shatila 1 Center to cook iftar and celebrate their G12++ results, a small but meaningful celebration of their success together.

Many refugee teenagers in Lebanon grow up without access to consistent education.
At Alsama Project, four education centres across Shatila and Bourj al‑Barajneh provide free secondary education to students who otherwise might never attend school. Most arrive unable to read or write — within months, they build essential literacy and numeracy skills through our award-winning, WASC-accredited curriculum.
Education at Alsama empowers students, protects girls from early marriage, and transforms futures.
This Ramadan, your zakat can sustain this work and help refugee youth reach their potential.

Science class just got real. Our Year Six students stepped into a university lab at for the first time!
They explored experiments beyond the classroom with their science teacher, Ms Amira. Dalal shared her amazement:
"In biology class, we learned that every living thing is made of cells, and I used to imagine they all looked the same. But in the lab, I saw that each cell has its own shape, a liver cell is different from a small intestine cell. I realized my body is made of different cells working together to keep me alive."
Thank you, , for welcoming our students.
